It has been said many times on here that the Picture Styles in the Canon dslrs dont take effect in RAW ... only jgs. and that you can alter them in the Canon software when processing your RAWS afterwards though.

How come when you select B&W in-camera with the picture styles, and if you process thru any RAW processor (Lightroom, ACR etc) it is still B&W when it arrives there? Surely if the picture styles dont affect raw shots then the shot would arrive on the pc as colour?

I think it's just that the software preserves the desaturation setting. If you move the saturation slider back to the right then the colour info is still there. Although oddly, for me, if I shoot mono RAW the file opens in colour in ACR  Maybe it's a software setting thing?

What Grendel said.

They don't affect the RAW per se, but the previews in Lightroom etc, 'remember' the picture style settings.
It still retains all the RAW info, and you're just seeing the B&W preview, as you did in camera.

Although I think only Lightroom does it, I dont think Rawshooter or Capture One does.
