I'm a relative newbie and during my daughters sports day I didn't notice I had the ISO set to 800 :bang:

Looking at the shots on the PC later I thought they were quite noisy even though it was at ISO 800

It this excessively noisy?

Noise will be affected by the sharpness settings, so this does look quite noisy, however it also looks like sharpening has been applied in camera which makes it worse. What is the sharpening set to?

You can get rid of quite a bit with noise removal software but still not going to be as good as shooting at a lower ISO.

That is way too much, ISO800 on my 40D is not that bad.

Was this uploaded to Facebook or edited via Apeture? My sister took some wedding pics recently, edited them on her Mac (in Apeture I think) and uploaded them to facebook, most were really grainy like this image above (if not worse). She said he didnt go over ISO800 and was using 400 outdoors.

I wonder if you have the same issue?

I'm more concerned the poor girl is running with a holed through left trainer while you point a £900 lens at her. I've phoned childline ;) j/k :)

Shame about the noise because that's a really nice shot otherwise :(

Definately check those sharpening settings :(

I shot it in raw so went back, re-cropped it and got rid of the sharpening, is this better?

Well it's kind of hard to tell with the two images being at different resolutions...
