No sure wether to put this in the Business section or here....

Anyway, a few weeks ago I shot a childrens birthday party and the parents have been in touch to see if they can order a large print made up of many smaller images which they like from my online gallery. Below is an example of the type of thing I'm thinking of.......

(NOT MY WORK - just an example of what I'm after from a website).

Can anyone tell me please how I do this in CS4 or is there a plug in I can get to make it easy for me.

Thanks for any help guys

Ryan

Open/create a new image, and set the canvas size to whatever is required for your final montage.

Open the images you wish to compile in the montage, and then drag them in to your newly created canvas. Once you have dragged them across, you should be able to drag the corners of the bounding box to resize them as required. When dragging the corners, remember to hold the shift key so that you maintain the aspect ratio.

To get them to line up nicely, you may need to turn 'snap to grid' on.

or try PS wedding tutorials on you tube, there is plenty stuff about it.

Ryan,

Piece of pee on CS3,

Create a canvas the size you want to print, (File>New>New Canvas) and then add in each picture as a layer.... you can shuffle them around easy enough....

Just my opinion but I would have a much smaller gap between images!!!

I would create a new canvas to your required size. Then decide on the size of shots you want. Draw guides to where you want the photos to be positioned. Then on the individual photos use the crop tool to define the size. Make sure the pixels per inch is the same as the canvas you made. Then it is an easy job snapping them to the guide lines. The example below was for a 3x3 main image with 5x 2x2 all on a 9x9 canvas. 1" border round the outside and 0.5" border for the inside. It took about 2 mins to set up and looks pretty close to your example. Set up a stroke action for the individual photos to save more time.

Save the canvas with the guides without any photos for use in the future.

Guys - just wanted to say how grateful I am for all the advice so far. I'm intending to have a crack at this in the next evening or two and will update with how I get on.

I think it's the lining up bit that is gonna make me cry :D But I'll try the "snap to grid" command and see how I get on.

Ta for now :)

Guys, I've hjust started working on this in CS4. I've opened a new canvas 20x30 inches and have coloured it black.

Once done I've opened all the pics to on to the black canvas. But when I try to drop them onto the canvas they just float on the screen as if I'm working on a totally new image. How do I get them to integrate with my canvas??

Sorry for being such a muppet.

What might be easier overall is to create a new document in PS, with a layer that is the 'white' portion of the montage. This would be with the relevant windows masked off, so that the pics could be added in layers below the windows. That way, you could make up more montages in the same style pretty easily.

Picture package is in Photoshop too.

How do you find it please :)

I too am interested in how this is done and had the same problem as Ryan when opening the photo on the white/black canvas, with it just overlapping the original.

ok guys - using picture package, how can i get black borders around each individual picture?

cheers
