My daughter ask me about tablets this afternoon, she's planning getting her daughter one. She ask me how do you know if a tablet will play YouTube videos, so now I'm putting the
the question to you guys because i'm not sure. Its just a basic tablet she has in mind.

For the sake of your sanity and the greater good do not get a hipstreet flare. This one is pretty much a benchmark to how crap the market can get.

It should have flash player to be able to play videos such as youtube and the likes, i would say buy one for about £100 should be ok.

I hear Tesco's hudl is pretty good for the money

Sent from my HTC One S using Talk Photography Forums mobile app

depends on budget and how much computer knowledge they have but i love my nexus 7 does everything ive ever asked it to and is so light and portable, however if they arent so great with computers then maybe an ipad would be better.

Not a fan of the ipad, plus budget wouldn't be anyway near that, should have explained earlier budget would be sub £100:-)

if thats the case, and i know that its still slightly over see if you can find an old nexus 7 think argos had them at £130. this will be much better supported and have more apps available

Aye, Hudl too much too £110 - looks like you're going for a ebay jobbie (ePad) or a modded Kindle or the like

+1. Much more powerful than the kindle fire (not the newerHDX) and fully supports Google Play Store so access to just about every app known to man. More up to date OS than the kindle. Just be aware that there are 2 versions of the Nexus and the new 2013 version is around the £200 mark. The £129.99 one is the 2012 version and is the one I am describing above. The 2013 version is much better and that is reflected in the extra £70 price tag. Tesco hudl looks good on paper to and its only £119 and has a micro sd slot which the nexus doesn't (important if storage space for photos, movies or music is important)

Just read about your sub £100 budget. I would urge you to try and find a little more for the hudl or nexus. Dont know much about the cheaper sub £100 chinese jobs but have heard people having all sorts of issues.

If you have any Tesco clubcard vouchers double them up and get the HUDL for sixty quid

My wife got a camera like that when Tesco/Jessops were doing the same offer

The tesco one is probably best bet. Even though it's cheap it shold be supported well enough

Another vote for nexus 7. A bit over your budget but a very good tab.

Keep an eye for eby refurb deals for the 16gb one. If you are going to load movies go for 32gb one.

A great number come up used on avf classified.

Get a 1st gen Nexus 7 for a few quid over budget, or the Hudl for £60 if you have clubcard points. Both are excellent devices. The cheapo no-name ones are a crapshoot...

I bought a 7inch Nook HD from ebay for £38 (boxed in pristine condition). It was being sold by XS items as a customer returned item with faulty software. 5mins plugged into the PC and I had Barnes & Nobles bloated Ice Cream Sandwich off and Vanilla Jellybean 4.2.2 installed.
Full access to the market very nippy for a dual core tab thanks to simplified OS and an expansion slot for extra storage. extremely happy.

There was an ebuyer email this morning promoting this one I thought looked OK
It has sd slot and hdmi so could play to larger screen.

I have an early one from Lenovo and it can't play HD video smoothly, they most all should do now though.
I do kind of like the concept but to be honest it mainly functions as a bedside alarm now.

We have brought our daughter a hudl for christmas. Its responsive and an excellent tablet, excellent value for money. I found anything under 100 was very frustrating to use, very slow and bad screens.

Did you try the Kobo Arc 7 in Currys?
