My girlfriend keeps saying how she would love to get an old film SLR, so after a bit of research I thought the OM10 would make a nice christmas present, and I like it so much I got one for myself!

They are both standard OM10's with the 50mm lens. What film for every day use (colour and black and white) would you guys reccomend? Preferably not too expensive, especially as we are both beginners with film so no doubt there will be a fair few dodgy exposures, so I wouldnt want to waste good film..... yet :P

heres the website i use to buy them, i find them very cheap and its free delievery too

You won't go wrong with Ilford film for black & white. To start with, try FP4+ which has an ISO rating of 125, and HP5+ which is 400 ISO/ASA. There are also the Delta equivalents which are slightly dearer, but I'd highly recommend the above two. The prices vary enormously, so do shop around. Mathers of Lancashire sell them for £3 (36 exp), but Jessops charge £5.50 last time I checked.

I haven't done colour for years so I don't know all the films available, but Kodak Ektar 100 has always received great reviews, and there are a couple of members here who have used this film. There are Fuji equivalents as well.

For colour Fuji superia 200 is an excellent general purpose film......and Tesco will develope it and puts your shots on CD and sometimes with a printed mini contact sheet of your pics, all for £2.

7dayshop is the way forward.

If you don't want to dev your own black and white just yet you can get some C41 black and white (such as Kodak BW400CN).

ASDA will also process and scan to CD for a couple of quid. Although the scanners they use tend to 'try' and correct things a little to harshly!

is that all tescos that develop black and white film for £2, if so thats good, im getting myself down there sharpish. Got some film i need dev and dont have time at college, plus hes starting us on another project when i have not finished my first one lol

Dunno if they do c41 b/w.

thanks guys, i will look into these :)

No, I dont have manual adapters as yet, seems they are under a tenner on ebay for the most part, so i'll pick up a couple of them. I'll let the GF shoot a couple of rolls as it is first before I introduce her to manual shooting i think :)
