Picasa - the end

That's quite sad news. :(

I found Picasa a great software for beginners. It does most things people want. And I could show people how to use it in a couple of hours. Not much software you can do that with.

Unless I reading it wrong, Google won't be replacing the editing software, just the online storage aspect.

They do allow you to edit the pictures in chrome online though... I don't know how it made an income for them though?

Google have a bad habit of shutting things down. Don't get too reliant on Google stuff. They'd already shut down the Linux version of Picasa a few years back. So I moved over to Digikam. Which is loads better for managing lots of pictures.

I did ues it may years ago mostly to keep track of files, but I've changed the way I work since then and haven't used it since.

This is sad news. I used it a lot initially as it was so easy to understand.

That's a real shame my dad uses it to organise all his photos and also more the little buts of editing that he does
Will the picassa program on his pc stop working after a certain date then ?

They are also closing the Picasa site and moving activities to Google Photos. I'll need to find a way to upload direct to Google Photos from my workflow then presumably.

"If you have photos or videos in a Picasa Web Album today, the easiest way to still access, modify and share most of that content is to log in to Google Photos, and all your photos and videos will already be there. Using Google Photos, you can continue to upload and organize your memories, as well as enjoy other great benefits like better ways to search and share your images.
However, for those of you who don’t want to use Google Photos or who still want to be able to view specific content, such as tags, captions or comments, we will be creating a new place for you to access your Picasa Web Albums data. That way, you will still be able to view, download, or delete your Picasa Web Albums, you just won’t be able to create, organize or edit albums (you would now do this in Google Photos)."

Yellow on white is really hard to read!

No, the program will continue to work but Google will stop providing the download (so grab it ASAP and keep it safe if you want to (re)install it in the future), and will stop doing any updates/bugfixes (so at some point Microsoft might make a chance to a future version of Windows that happens to break it and Picasa will truly be no more).

Oops. Sorry. Changed it back. I couldn't find any Quote button. I now see its hidden under the Insert command. The only icon not to perform an immediate command, apart from justify.

White on white, awesome!

It's white by default when you have a dark theme. And if I set it to black, it's invisible to people with a dark theme. So while it looks fine to me now, I can only guess what it looks like at your end.

Thanks that's good news:)
My dad is even less computer literate than me:D
so wouldn't want to learn new software and picassa is perfect for what he wants

No. I haven't got Windows. So I have no idea. What I do know is that they are busy bringing out enhancements in the regular updates.

But it's easy to give it a try. That won't cost anything and then you'll know.

I use it for my work flow (download, organise, upload) where you can open up pictures in your favourite editor or raw processor. And only use the built in editor for quick edits.
