Anyone got any high-resolution pics pics of the grip?

I keep hearing that they're better than the Canon BG-E5 but I just feel slightly tacky buying cheap HK non-OEM accessories.

I was just about to order the BG-E5 when I saw a comment on my other thread saying that Phottix is better quality than Canon.

What do you reckon? :thinking:

I've got the Phottix EN-EL4 conversion for the MB-D10, which is essentially the battery door and battery for the Phottix grip.

I posted a review on it somewhere on the forum :shrug:

I have a Phottix grip for my 40D. Here is a review I wrote just after getting it.

Since selling the 300D and battery grip to get a 40D, I have missed the grip, not for the ergonomics or battery life but for the ability to use vertically with the shutter button on top. Canons BG-E2N is priced at about £125 -£150, a bit pricey just for the ability to shoot vertically.
Ebay seller etefore sells a compatible 3rd party grip, Phottix BP-40D, for £39 inc postage from Hong Kong. I ordered the grip on 06/08/08 and it arrived 12/08/08, so very quick delivery. I unpacked and inspected the item expecting it to be a little lightweight, I was suprised at the build quality, which was very good, and the unit felt solid and robust. I fitted it to the 40D and checked all the buttons and switches were working, and they were. The only fault I could pick with it was that the thumbscrew that attaches the grip to the camera did not seem as strong as the Canon one, however it does not seem to be a problem at the moment, and as I tend to leave the grip on at all times it should be o/k.
There is also a battery caddy for 6AA batteries for use when the main batteries are drained, but since I can get about 1400 shots with the main batteries this should not pose a problem.
If you are looking for a grip and don't want to pay top prices you could do worse than try one of these.

6 months on it is still going strong and has never been a problem.

I have just bought one for the 40d and am waiting for delivery, £51 plus complete with 2 batteries, I think the genuine ones are way over priced so I'm giving these ago, fingers crossed I don't get burned by it being a load of old tosh. I've seen a few favourable reports so I'm hopeful.
 
No problems (other than the initial charge one) with my D300 adapter, which cost less than an OEM D300 battery, so I'm happy enough :)

You must have been unlucky with either the grip or the batteries. I had Phottix grips and batteries on both my 40D and 5D and found the battery life to be superior to the Canon originals that I also used. I have used several non oem batteries, and found the Phottix to be the best.

The grips themselves probably are of a slightly lower build quality than Canon originals, but much better value for money.
 
I went for the genuine Canon BG-E5 in the end. :|
