Hello,
I received my Phottix Battery Grip in the post today, so I thought I would write a review to help other people in my situation (not sure whether or not the Canon grip is worth the price).
I ordered the grip on the 1st December for £40 with free postage. It was dispatched on the Thursday of that week. It took 1 week and 1 day to arrive, and was packed very well. The grip was ordered from eBay member etefore of Hong Kong Supplies, http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Hong-Kong-Supplies.
The battery grip itself is very good quality. The construction feels solid, and the vertical grip is rubber as opposed to the textured plastic on the front of my 450D. It fits very snugly onto the camera with no gap. The grip came with the standard tray for 2 batterys and a tray for AA batterys.
The shutter button and control wheel (correct terminology?) are positioned perfectly for my hand, the same with the 3 rear buttons. The buttons are not as good quality of that on the camera, however they do not feel bad quality.
The grip looks exactly like the Canon offering, and, in my opinion, is of higher quality than the Canon. I tried the Canon one out in Jessops and the vertical grip did not feel as good.
Obviously, I cannot tell if the grip will last, but it certainly feels good quality. I will post in here again in a few months to inform you if the grip is still going strong.
In conclusion, I would say this grip is very good quality and I would certainly recommend this over the Canon BG-E5 on the grounds of better quality (imo) and the fact it is half the price of the Canon.
If you would like any pictures, or any other information on the grip, just let me know and I will happily assist.
Thanks,
Matt
