So following on from the suggestion of a shoppery challenge, what sort of thing would you like to see, fortnightly? themed? random?

I'm having a job keeping up with compo deadlines as it is. Random

regards

Random is probably easier all round, especially given the consensus so far;)

I'd prefer random. No deadline, just a "Do what you can / want with this pic" approach.

The problem with that, is thge judging of these things becomes difficult. Especially if it's an openly judged event where all the forum members vote. Basically, what if you have a piece of photoshop work that is fantastic BECAUSE it's so subtle, and unnoticable? Would that get voted for? Unlikely. If you're going to have a "do what you want" type competition, I think you need a work log of somesort so show what's been done, otherwise only the entries that are dripping with effects and filters or obviously some sort of montage will get a look in.

I welcome this challenge, I am a self confessed photoshopoholic! An order of workflow would be a good addition so that others could perhaps emulate (copy) the ideas.....any filters (that the owner has added to photoshop)used would have to be documented aswell otherwise the challenge would have to stipulate (lots of long words for me lol) whether filters other than the ones already in PS were to be used or not...I know what I mean lol.

i think a list of whats been done is essential, im not sure if a voting thing would work or whether just a theme image>shopped>posted>fawned over thread for each theme would be better, not a competition as such, more of a challenge?

Sounds good Matty...keeps it fun & informative.

Yeah a list of what's done is a good idea.

I'm with Matty, I prefer the no voting, just everyone get stuck in and show their stuff in the thread, once it all dies down, another pic and theme gets posted.

Not sure who / how we decide who posts the next pic though.

Whoever posted the picture that has just been 'shopped' should pick based on whatever criteria they feel like.

Sounds good to me. Whoever posted the previous pic chooses a name, anyone, based on whatever criteria they deem fit (and they don't have to specify the criteria ;))

That sounds good, anyone else?

we could do the shoppery with the same theme as the fortnightly? or is that a bit odd

Sorry to go against the flow but I don't feel that shoppers should be compelled to reveal every little detail of how they achieved the final result. Sometimes so many little things are done that to type it out could become a disincentive.

I think a base photo, a theme, and a time scale is all that is needed to push a few things out. If people decided to reveal all then so much the better.

Ah, a secret squirrel with his processes ;) Only joking....high level is enough for most people.

Truth be told I don't have many secrets, but have many too learn. It was mono-masters like you that I would hope to learn from:notworthy:

If people like you didn't post because of the hassle of recording everything we lesser mortals would be worse off!

I like the work at worth1000.com but they never really say how they do it so inspiration is there but very few clues how to repeat it.(arguing against myself now!!)

ok so if we say a walkthrough would be nice, but not essential, is that ok?

this sounds fun. it would be good to have a rough workflow at least, mabe not exact but just to give an idea...? you wouldn't have to write for example: channel mixer- red 100% green 76%... but just 'used channel mixer to change tones' etc.

Aye, lets say you can be as in depth as you want.
But bear in mind this is a fun thing, so you don't HAVE to be a serious photochopper to do something.

If you want to crudely cut out something and draw a face on it, then that's fine too I suppose. This is for ALL levels of talent, so I suppose it's not just a "What *can* you do with this shot", its also a "What do you *want* to do with this shot"....IYSWIM.

next logical question is who wants to start!

You're allowed to use the full three letters of WTF :D as long as you don't elaborate on what it means ;)

The swearing we don't allow is full words, but we advise on either using complete amount of stars, ie *****, or typing it out yourself, and letting the swear filter catch it, BUT, if you do that, make sure and check the swear filter has caught it ;). We have very naughty minds, but even we don't know every swear word or variation, so we might not have added it to the filter ;)

Oh, BTW, it *was* If You See What I Mean.

where do we post these images? If we use a filter which has been added to PS is that ok? I have turned a photo into a sort of pencil drawing using a 'buzz' filter does that count?

i think the original idea was to have a starting image and 'shop it, but if you have an image you want to post with what you've done to it just post it in sharing, if we get a lot of Shopped stuff im sure we could add another forum category for it

yup thats it marianne, we could have a special forum just for shopped stuff if it works out well, might be easier than having it all jumbled together

I work with a load of South Africans, and Afrikaans is the easily the best language to swear in, google "insultmonger" for some choice phrases hehe

Oh and if you do visit that site, it's not work friendly.
