I,m considering getting photoshop, and of course its not a cheap bit of software. Has anyone got the student edition and registered their son/daughter in order to qualify for the student discount?
On another note how good/bad is elements compared with CS ?

Cheers,
Texy

What exactly do you want to do with it? If it's just to deit Raw/Jpeg files and do various effects, then Elements is more than enough. If you want to do serious professional complex image editing, then CS is probably the way to go. Personally I've never found Elements wanting.

In order to get the student discount you'll need to get the application signed off by a course tutor for a recognised course. It's not simply saying I'm a student please give me the discount .

If you want to see the difference you can download a 30 day trial from the Adobe site for both Elements and Photoshop.

If you've never used either start with Elements and the progress to Photoshop. The techniques you learn in Elements will hold you in good stead for Photoshop. Also the latest version of Photoshop , CS4 is due out the end of this month, so using Elements now will give you the time until the latest version is available.

I'd also trawl the net for some Photoshop tutorials first. This'll give you a head start and give you the most out of the trial period.

Also don't forget Lightroom. This may be a better program for you depending on what you want to do. Also available as a 30 day trial

My partners son is doing A-level photography, so that box is ticked!

..unfortunately the trials are not always available, but I,ve registered interest with Adobe.

You don't have to get it signed off by a tutor at all.

I bought mine last year while I was doing the OU digital photography course and I bought mine on line using my OU student registration certificate and it popped through the door three days later.

Was worth every penny of doing the course! :)

Be very, very careful with Adobe trials and betas. They can be an absolute nightmare to remove from your system and can involve some serious registry hacking.

I have the portable versions of both Lightroom 2 & Photoshop CS3. I carry it around on my USB stick, invaluable to me.:D

Only 53MB.:woot:

How does the licensing work for that? I thought it was one desktop and one laptop?

I couldn't tell you mate, I was looking for a portable version and managed to find them. Both are fully licensed versions.:)

Was just curious, as I had a portable version of GIMP before.
