Hi I am thinking of getting Photoshop but I've never used anything like this before so my question is which one would be best to get do I go with earlier ones or bang up to date with all new singing dancing tools ?

If you're just starting out, I'd go for Photoshop Elements 9. FAR cheaper than the alternative (Lightroom+CS5) and has 99% of the features you'll need in it.

Mark, dont spend £500+ on Photoshop CS?. I use Elements 9 and I know 2 professional photographers who use Elements 9, one of them had Photoshop CS5 and even though he was using it everyday there were a lot things there that he had never ever used and Elements 9 gives him everything he needs.

9 has a lot of extra features - layers (really useful) and content aware fill (again really useful). Unless 5 is free, I'd go with 9. For less than £50 it's probably all you'll ever need...

I agree with the above...go for PSE 9. Get a book by Scott Kelby to guide you through several basic steps, and you'll be well on your way to doing some very neat stuff.

I second this you won't regret it ...

I was wondering what was the best program to use and was recommended Photoshop Elements 9. However, it is a little more than I wanted to pay. The lowest price I have seen is on Amazon from around £80.
Now that Elements 9 is out, Elements 8 is obviously now a lot cheaper and is from around £30.
Is 9 far superior than 8 in terms of features and ease of use? Or is it virtually the same as 8, with only a few fancier things?
I am a complete amateur and have only just bought my first DSLR and just learning!

Thanksx

I am a beginner, I am using elements 8 as it was free withy laptop , for now at least it has everything I need, certainly there is nothing I have been trying to do that o can't do yet.

Thanks. I am just downloading the trial version of Elements 9. TBH, looking at prices, there isn't that much difference.
Looking forward to having a play! :)
