Photoshop tuition in Cornwall ?

Are there any experts in Photoshop who would consider giving a novice a few hours basic training on a one-to-one basis - properly paid of course !
I tried it once many years ago, found it all too complicated but I was pretty new to computers back then too. I want to try some layers, dodging, burning, removing or adding people, changing the background, that sort of stuff, so nothing too advanced. Currently I use ACDSee which if fine for most things and I guess is similar to lightroom in its editing abilities.
Truro college doesn't seem to offer anything, I am in St Austell but could travel some way, and am available most school days and could be some evenings too.

Any thoughts ?
 
In all honesty, I'd see how you get on with Photoshop tutorials online. Many are thoroughly described and will give you a grasp of it without paying out. Photoshop is quite vast to get on with in a few hours training but at least with online tutorials, you can refer back.
 
Thanks for the reply Kris - I do think that a few hours tuition will achieve way more than I would learn in weeks of tutorials though appreciate the reply, and will try some anyway..!
I am an old-timer who finds it easier to learn from a human than a screen, and am also the sort that prefers to queue in a bank just so a human can take my money rather than go straight to a cash-point...!
 
Fair enough. In that case, I can't help you. Maybe there is someone local to you who will see this or there could be some short courses in nearby colleges.

May be worth going along to a local camera club too. Surely someone there that could help you.
 
Hello, have you tried Nik Software? is a collections of plug-ins that work with PS, Lightroom, etc. really easy to use and you get great results.
I've never learned to use PS, so I use Lightroom, but now with Nik Software, I only use LR. to import and launch the plug-ins.

sirkuk - that is a good idea - my local camera club may well be able to help me out. I have looked at the local colleges but they have nothing.
 
Get the book photoshop for photographers by Martin evening. Very useful. Plus check out some of the photoshop tutorials on the adobe website. They have some right from basics in easy to manage chunks.

Forgot to mention, one of the good things about NS is the fact that they offer free webinars, is better if you seclect U.S. as your website, that has a broader selection.

Go to learning and on demand, there're also live videos, but you need to register for those (all is free)
 
Shame you don't live a bit closer to Glastonbury...
 
Well, the people at the college where I teach beginners photography and Photoshop part time seem to think so...

Just to update this - yesterday saw me passing through Somerset so I called in on Jon for a couple of hours tuition, and yes, I had arranged it beforehand..!

He took me through a whole heap of stuff, answering many of my questions before I had even asked them and I left feeling like I now had some basic grasp on photoshop.
He also mentioned a couple of workshops and courses he runs or is planning to set up - fancy a few days in France with a group of 4-6 other photographers next year ? Or, if you are close to Stroud College then it might be worth asking him for some details !

Clearly in 2 hours we only touched on the surface, and my lack of sleep the previous week didn't help my ability to retain much but I think that Jon is a good, friendly and easy-to-get-along-with person who teaches in a clear and logical way. He charged me what seemed to be a very reasonable rate too, and was very good at offering me tea and coffee.
So, a big Thank You to you Jon, and please keep me informed about the French workshops !
 
Just join Lynda.com for a couple of months, you'll learn more from their vast range tutorials than you ever will with someone sitting there pointing at your screen for a couple of hours.

I may try that, but needed some time one to one with someone who could explain in a way that I could take in. I have tried various versions of photoshop and elements over the years and always struggled.
Jon did just that.

I have to say that a couple of months on Lynda.com really ought to teach me more than a couple of hours with someone sitting pointing at my screen, but up till now no amount of staring at a screen alone has got me to where I now feel I am.
 
Thanks for the nice words, Steve! Hope some of it was useful. One small correction: It's Strode College in Street where I sometimes teach.
