Yes
I use Mac OSX and have been using Aperture 2 for organising photos and doing a bit of post-processing. I've recently used Nikon's View NX and the trial version of Capture NX2, and have enjoyed them. I'm doing Open University studies, and have led to believe I can get a hefty discount on Photoshop.

Is it worth getting it, and if so, should I flog Aperture 2? Would the Nikon products and Photoshop be all an enthusiastic and inquiring amateur needs?

Any advice gratefully received.

Yes, you can get a student discount for Photoshop and it would be a considerable saving.
Wouldn't it be advisable to download the trial version and see if you like it?
For my sins, I'm a PC and Canon user, so can't comment on the Nikon software.
Sorry! :)

Cheers HH! I used an earlier incarnation of Photoshop when I was a full-time student a good few years back, and I did like it. Will search out a trial version, thanks.

I use Aperture and PS3, for me they both have different uses. I use aperture to organise my photos and do the raw processing and PS3 for any advance editing and printing. I also managed to get a student discount on PS3 and it is considerably cheaper, I would say go for it the student discount makes it an affordable piece of software.

Thanks Steve & Stephen I think I'll go for the Aperture 2 and Photoshop combo, and ditch the Capture NX2 when the trial ends.

Exactly, except I'm using Lightroom instead of Aperture.

Really the only drawback to the student discount is that it is not upgradeble so when your no longer a student and a new version comes out if you want it it will be full price :shake:
