Hi guys,
Just wondering, is photoshop elements worth getting (for mac)? How limited is it compared to the cs3. Only just getting into everything so just looking for some advice
And am i right in thinking that there is no elements 7 for mac?
Depends how serious you want to get into digital processing / digital art of images. The full all singing bells and whistles version of Photoshop cs4 (latest) does far more that most people take images uses or requires. Really photoshop is a digital editing design tool that can do photo editing, but it does so much more. A large number of its users barely scratch the surface and don't really benefit from its true capabilities.
The question you need to ask is, are you going to do more than edit images, if the answer is Yes and you intend to venture into digital art, then full version of photoshop is a powerful tool to have, if not, its alot of money just for editing images.
Elements is a handy bit of software (I own version 5) and does most of what you need for JPegs. Raw processing is abit weak, but why not use the free bit of software that came with the camera, DPP for canon users does everything you need to process raw images (better than adobe in some respects) then handle converted files in elements.
Have a look at picasa 3 from google
http://picasa.google.co.uk/intl/en/#utm_source=en-all-more&utm_campaign=en-pic&utm_medium=et,
or gimp
http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/
Both are free and have some good elements.
Photoshop Elements 6 (Mac), unfortunately Paintshop Pro doesn't do a Mac version (please correct me if I'm wrong) are also good bits of software on a budget, what about Aperature 2 for the Mac, ideal for mac users.
Lots of choice out there, really depends what you want to pay.
