As a general rule I like to think that the art of photography lies in taking the picture, not the post editing. That said I still would like to get a fairly adequate image editor. I know that there are several iterations of elements going up to 8.

My question is, that for someone on a budget, would Elements 6 for example make sense at £15ish or is it worth the extra expense to get the most recent 8 for the £50ish it costs?

Thanks in advance

Jamie

It's generally a good idea to get the latest version if funds allow, that said you could probably do most things a normal tog would need in elements 2 if you had to. The latest version will have more features and is probaly easier to use (I don't use elements myself mind)
But the biggest advantage of the newer versions are if you have a new-ish camera and want to shoot raw, older versions might not support your camera. There is a work around as long as it has camera raw (and I don't know what version of elements that came in but I'd guess 4 or 5) by using the adobe free DNG converter, although this does add another step in the processing cycle.

massive problems with 6 on my computer keeps crashing

Also bear in mind that if the version is to old and you have a new operating system, they might not be compatible.

Another thing to remember is the Camera RAW plug-in. Newer cameras may not be compatible with older versions so always buy the latest.

Sound advice, thanks guys, I'm using a Nikon D60 and Vista (although I intend on upgrading to 7 at some point).

Cheers

Jamie
