I have not yet performed any PP - what is the best software to use?

I'll be working off a iMac. I currently shoot in JPG but would like to start shooting in RAW to see if this adds any benefit; I don't want to spend ages processing RAW images so i'd like software that allows me to bulk process RAW files to JPEGs as the camera would have done automatically.

The reason for the bulk PP is because I want to start with only a couple of RAW processing images, so I can decide whether it adds any benefit for my photo's.

Any help appreciated.

It's like anything you only get out what you're willing to put in. If you're not going to take the time to learn how to process raw files properly then stick to shooting jpeg as its pointless exercise. Sorry to be so blunt.

Hi, Cannot see why you want to shoot in RAW then bulk process to jpeg as the jpeg holds far less info than a RAW.
I would suggest always shoot RAW as it holds much more info than a jpeg.
Also suggest type into Google,Yahoo or Youtube "RAW versus jpeg" to see more explicit definitions of the two formats.

I haven't been doing this long so am far from being an expert, but I have access to Lightroom, Elements and CS6. I do 90% of my editing in Lightroom, but I prefer the clone tool in Elements. I rarely need anything that CS6 does that the other don't.

Always shoot in raw, it's saved many a photo that probably wouldn't be salvagable from a jpeg.

RAW will certainly add benefits, and is no harder to learn than any other form of editing. I'd start with one programme and get the hang of that rather than risk confusing yourself with loads of different approaches to the same end. Elements is brilliant value and will do just about anything you're likely to need to get going.

Nikon View NX2 is a free download and is great for NEF processing.

It will apply all the camera settings so the raw will look the same as the JPEG would have. These can be edited or you can leave them as they are.

It uses the same algorithms as Capture NX2 but does not have all the extra adjustments so it is more efficient and therefore faster.

It has
Exp comp
WB
Picture Control
Sharpness
Contrast
Brightness
Highlight Protection
Shadow Protection
D Lighting
Colour booster
Crop
Straighten
Auto Red Eye
Axial CA
Auto Lateral CA

You can also edit metadata, batch process etc.

Capture NX2 has all the above plus Control Points, Selection Tools, Heal tool etc etc

Thanks all, I think I'll start with Lightroom!

Also, to clarify, I am willing to put the time in to learn PP and I won't just be bulk processing; what I want to do is bulk process most and pick the odd photo out to edit in order to learn. Rather than starting with hundreds of PP, starting with 1 or 2 will allow me to give individual cases more time and thus learn more.
