Yip, a daunting outlay, I know it has more features than elements, but not quite sure if my end results would be noticeably better with it.
Surprised that there is no "halfway house" between about £60 for elements and about £600 for CS5.

Ah but how big is your e-penis today;)

Haha  fantastic piece of software! I stick a lot of my photos through Aperture for speed but when it comes to features CS5 is brilliant! :)

But with no money in your pocket, you can still have loads of fun with CS5! I upgraded a few months ago from CS3 and boy am I pleased I did!

New upgrades will be more reasonable after you have made this initial large layout of all your monopoly money! ;0)

Did you buy new? I bought an old copy of CS2 and upgraded - much cheaper route.

I love CS5 - thankfully as a web designer It's always provided through work, Doubt I'd ever pay that price for it!

Ermm that is illegal too I'm afraid. It is possible to get a part time course for less than £100 at a local college that qualifies you and its still cheaper and you can always do the course too.

Now that is a good idea, why did i not think of that ?? Too late now though, but might be useful for other software in the future.... Thanks for the tip 

Just spent out on a 'legit' version myself, except I went via Amazon and bought one with a damaged box (tiny dent in the packaging) £320 delivered, loaded it up and registered it with no drama's at all. Just need to learn how to use it other than just a RAW converter lol

.DAVID.

Interesting fact, if you have a child at school then you can qualify for the student discount, and it's all legal that way as long as the child has access to the software.
This covers not only Adobe but a lot of other software too, Microsoft Office anyone.

I always thought it was sixth form and up but looks like it goes all the way down to primary! That's my costs on software coming down as of September then!

Good purchase. Photoshop CS5 is worth every penny. I do wonder what features they can add next, but I'm sure they've got some tricks up their sleeve.

Don't know about the full version but my student licence, let's me install on 2 computers.( maybe more not tried) and adobe will convert it to another platform if you phone them Eg from Mac to Windows

Student discount is great, don't know what il do when I am no longer a student but I do have another 2 years left minimum.:D

well you can keep that copy as long as you wont, only problem comes if you wanna upgrade

Well, I don't think that the Student/Teacher ed will allow you to update it, so I was told... and Adobe do actual checks to see if you are a legit student blah blah blah... I was also told that if you are no longer a student, then the Photoshop is deactivated... is this true?

I'm not new to PS, but this is the first time I shelled out the readies, and feel better about it too... :)

No, you do have to prove you are eligible at the time of purchase only. The software does not deactivate once your course has completed or you leave school. Only restriction would be you cannot use it for commercial use.

holy sweet mother of god! - just looked at the retail price for cs5.5 master ed. Think I'll stick with gimp...

You can update too and it then basically becomes the full retail version.

when i read adobe's website its says you can use your educational copy for comercial use  might have changed but i doubt it

Yeah I was under that impression too. The whole idea behind it is so they can learn on it as a student and then use after. I think perhaps what might have been meant by commercial use though was say a large company buying a student copy because the managing director has a son in school. Perhaps that would not be possible but then a company wouldn't buy the retail sets either, they would buy the multi-license thingamebobs

Wow, CS5 is crazy expensive. I guess it is worth it in the long run, but is there not a package or anything you can get for lightroom and CS5?

I've seen legit CS5 on ebay in sealed box un-registered for £150 I also bought a full download CS5 from a software website for around £150, after it's registered you get all the updates works fine for me

You can also if you at uni get discounts on apple software. I work in IT at uni and got aperture 3 for £60 I think it was at the time before the app store came out. I didn't realise you could get adobe discount, but then I didnt look as work supplied me cs5 :-)

They can look legit and can work but generally, you pay that price, its a fraud. I would hazard a guess if you phone up adobe they will tell you its a fake. If it is you are also quite likely to face the situation of the serial number being blacklisted and it will one day stop working

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you really shouldn't advise anyone to do that.

CS5 is a professional tool and is priced as such. Much like a Canon 1Ds or a Nikon D3, or that nice 300mm f2.8 lens.

Photoshop Elements will do most of what the full version of Photoshop does for photography purposes at a fraction of the cost, even cheaper than the education version too.

and it takes you AGES to figure out how it works, cos its WAY different to other versions.
ive gone from CS2 to CS5. takes me a while to figure stuff. but its worth it.

Really? I went from cs to cs2 to cs4 to cs5 and the core features are exactly the same. There's just additional features.

I too have purchesed CS5 along with LR3, was running PSE9 and feel I was getting to grips with it and was ready to take the plunge...How wrong was I, Ive gone into brain meltdown :gag:

Can't open Bridge on mine and Adobe no help!!

Anyone finding themselves overwhelmed by Photoshop CS5 - I'd advise going on Youtube and looking at tutorials, extremely helpful and straight forward stuff, you'll find yourself using photoshop like a pro in no time.

Love CS5, have been working with CS3 for about 18months so the progression has been pretty easy. Plus I got a student version was a big plus, cost £165!

A full download for £150 - I would double check with Adobe to find out if you have a legitimate copy. It's highly implausable that a third party would release a legitimate digital download for 1/4 the manufacturers price.

Here you go, follow the link below and save yourself a fortune. I did and it works great for me, no disk, no manual, just download it and it works.

http://royal-customers.net/shop/item/530/

They have even got the latest updated CS5.5 on offer

http://royal-customers.net/shop/item/850/

Once downloaded you have to go onto the Adobe website to register the program with the supplied product key, Adobe contact you to thank you for purchasing their product. Once registered you get all the updates as they become available.
