On the last couple of times I've opened CS4 I have been met with the following warnings in dialog boxes:-

The command "unsharp mask" is not currently available

The command "fade" is not currently available

The command "image size" is not currently available

The object "current document" is not currently available

The object "selection" is not currently available

The command "copy" is not currently available

The object "layer" is not currently available

Can anyone help with overcoming this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help

Absolutely no idea.

However I'd go for a hard reset on CS4 if I was you:

Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings.

Is this a legit version of photoshop? Or one that could have been corrupted/modified in anyway?

Have you tried the reset preference mentioned above? if so and it's still playing up try this.
program files/ adobe/photoshop cs4/presets, in there is an action folder cut and paste all the actions somewhere else (remove them all from the folder but keep them safe) restart photoshop and see if that helps.
If it doesn't I think your looking at a fresh install.

I wouldn't have had the patience and would have uninstalled/reinstalled by now.

Will give it a go this weekend and hopfully report a success afterwards.

Thanks for the reply and the tip regarding the actions

If you want to retain your actions you MUST save them out from the actions palette!
They are NOT kept in ANY folder except the preferences folder as "Actions Palette.psp" Photoshop does not save them anywhere else, if you find any actions sets you have put/saved them there.

Yes should have added the save your made actions, any of the default ones or loaded actions will already be in the actions folder.

Anything you have installed or added you will have to add again if it comes to a re-install, anything you have made yourself (like actions) you need to save out first. When you make your own actions it's not saved by default just stored as a data file (for want of a better explaination) to able to reload or share it you have to save it as an .ATN file first(save action from the actions palette)
Scripts are generally made in something else first then loaded into photoshop, in which case youd have to put it in again, however if you save the plug-ins and preset folders in programs/adobe/adobe photoshop you should save the scripts, plug-ins and actions (except as above the un-saved actions ) The only problem then is you may save the problem as well as we don't know whats causing the issue your having.
Just thought have you recently run a virus scan? maybe it's deleted something.

Photoshop Scripts are normally install/located..
PC:- C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS#/Presets/Scripts/
Mac:- [hard drive]/Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS#/Presets/Scripts/
You only need to back up any custom scripts that have been installed.

Bridge Scripts are to be found by..
Start Bridge
Edit - Preferences - Startup Scripts
At the bottom click the "Reveal Button" this will open the folder where the scripts should be located.

Thanks for the help so far guys. Will print out this thread and follow your guidelines to the letter.

I run Kaspersky very regularly (twice a week) because I'm paranoid :cuckoo: about viruses so hopefully a virus isnt causing the problem
