I am currently in the process of having to get a new PC or Laptop due to the motherboard on my current laptop failing, I am currently running vista, but looking at getting a windows 7 64bit machine.

Does anyone know if Photoshop CS3 will work on a 64bit machine? Or will I have to fork out for a new version?

Cs3 is 32bit only, while it'll run fine on a 64bit OS it'll only use a tiny bit of memory and generally not be fast.

Cs4 or greater will use as much memory as you can throw at it.

For example running the OCUK photoshop stress test on this spec:

*CPU*
i7 2600K 4.4GHz

*RAM & PS ALLOCATION*
16GB DDR3 1600MHz

*INSTALL DISK*
OCZ Vertex 60Gb SSD

*SCRATCH DISK*
As above

Went from 3 mins 30 seconds on cs3 to 23 seconds on cs4. CS3 usage maxes out at 3255mb memory usage.

Thanks for the quick response, once I've the new PC I'll try loading it on before deciding if I need the improved ram capabilities, as can't really afford a new PC but needs must & asking the wife for an increased budget to process the photos might be pushing my luck

That is quite an improvement, I might need to see what I can find to fund the additional software
