Bit of background, I recently won a ebay auction for a copy of cs3, now I know what your all going to say," I've got rocks in my head",but it seem genuine.

Anyway it duly arrived and I've loaded it on my computer and it work fine, I've even registered it with Adobe and updated it( Its now CS3 extended??) and all seems well.

My question is, do you fine people think it is genuine or is it a very clever copy?

Surely it wouldn't have allowed me to register if it was dodgy?
 
Depends on how much you paid for it.

Could be simply someone selling their genuine copy of CS3 as they have upgraded to CS4.
 
Forgot to say, packaging was unopened, box looks genuine (although box is "small")
 
I think you might be alright with this. Sounds like you may have received a genuine version. One of the ebay scammer's favourite tricks is to provide you with a copy almost indistinguishable from the real thing. Complete with sealed packaging and manuals. However, when you go to register the software you discover that the key doesn't work (and was never issued by Adobe).

Ahh. That's the thing, the seller pulled the listing or his account straight after the end of the auction???? Well dodgy .

This got the alarm bells ringing at the time but I emailed him, he said sorry he had to do that but never gave a reason:shrug:

I received the software,it seems genuine and it's now registered, but there's still a niggle in the back of my mind that it's not right, but then again maybe I'm just lucky.

When you put the serial number in did it ask if it could connect to the internet to get the authorization code, or ask you to telephone adobe for the authorisation code ?.
 
When I entered the product key it did its stuff through the internet, from memory there was no authorization code??

I've recently purchased a copy of lightroom through more conventional means, and I can't remember an authorization code for that either?

You don't need to enter any authorization codes other than the 24 digit serial number, it will activate online automatically. I'm no expert on piracy :nono: but I think dodgy copies need to use a keygen or something to get round the activation process. It may be a genuine copy... but whether or not the seller had the right to sell the license or not might be another issue. :shrug:
 
CS3 needs an authorisation code which it can get automatically from adobe if your connected to the internet if your not it asks you to phone up for it.

It is possible its still a dodgy copy as certain versions of Adobe's software use a serial number that doesnt need any connection or authorisation from adobe, these are called 'Volume' editions by adobe other people call them enterprise or corporate, they are intended for use by schools, universities, and business with multiple copy's of the software. Cuts down on admin time by the computer department (we run it at uni).

the only real way to check is by calling adobe and asking ?.

I was buying not selling, but why wouldn't you be allowed to sell? Supposing of course it's unopened.
