Ok, this is just to pass the time and develope some skills, not ultra competitive, but i would like to get as many involved as possible!

Rules are simple, this time i give you a picture, you can whatever you feel is necessary to improve the picture, the only stipulation is that you give a brief explanation of how and what you have done when you post the picture, NO ACTIONS allowed!!

When the round closes, a poll will be set up, and we can all vote for ourselves, lol

if you want the full size image to work on, its here

right click - save target as...

but remember to make it small before reposting or the mods will be upset!!! good luck everyone, competition closes on June 14th!

Well it's obviously gonna be another golf course!

I just drew a mask around the building, then cut and pasted it into the golf course pic as a new selection (in PSP) I then adjusted the colour balance on the building to blend with the lighting on the other pic, got rid of the weeds and stuff with the push tool, and flattened (combined) the layers.

Cut out the building, duplicated and turned through 180, joined them. Selection from the bottom and copied it across to try to give a roller sort of look. Added in new layer with a sort of starburst and bobs your uncle. Pretty naff, and selection pretty poor but I'm at lunch :P

I have to say that you are being far more creative than I expected. I was going to have a bash at this but fear my poor editing skills won't match up.

I feel the same!

Come on fellers - it's just a bit of fun. No way is this really any sort of a contest, it's just to try and get folks who don't do much editing to get a toe in the water. You'll learn more getting in there and playing around than you might think! :D

yeah come on, some of the stuff that used to turn up on MEG when i ran this type then was fantastic, whilst other stuff really wasnt, but it was all part of the fun! you have 2 weeks, thats plenty of time to whip something up.

Dave those London pics you posted had some good editing, why not try something like that??

Most of that is RAW Edits + Virtual Photographer. I am not particularly brilliant with moving stuff around in the image seamlessly (especially when actions aren't allowed).
Might have a go though as a learning experience.

that's exactly what I felt. Mine is so corny I feel quite embarassed about it, but it was fun trying to see what you could make out of the original. :)

By the way CT, what happened to that old photo you were working on, time to update that thread me thinks ;)

I forgot all about that! I've updated it.

Hello!

I had a lot of work last weeks, but now I'm back and found this, sounds very intresting! Lets play!

Cheers!

i hope you are all busy beavering away at this, dont want this falling flat on its ass

The link to the large version appears to be broken :(

no idea where that has gone, even the matty directory has gone! right click/save as the piccy above, it wil be ok

link is fixed, so get downloaded and get it sorted!

Couple of days left on this people, even if your not confident the whole idea is to help to improve your shopping skills, so have a bash, lets see what you can come up with! You can just play with the levels and colours if you want, it really doesnt matter!

Here is my attempt.

3.jpg

I had to work with the low resolution version that EosD had uploaded so some of the adjustments have caused negative effects that would not be visible if I had been working on the original.

My vision was to remove some of the clutter and alter the lighting, something that may be advantageous to do on any photograph. I was aiming for more conventional rather than shock and to help the majority.

Steps taken.

Duplicated layer and then desaturated using channel mixer, favouring a bias towards the red to get the right contrast.

Added a second layer and then a gradient at the bottom from foreground to transparent. This was converted to colour and a dark green used. I then deleted the top of this and altered the layers opacity to get the balance I wanted. I was aiming for subtle here so it may not be that apparent in the final image.

Added another layer and did the same as above but for the top of the picture and used red as the colour. Again altered the blending to get my desired effect. At this point the sky was a lot less saturated as I was aiming for a soft light sunrise/sunset finish.

After altering the layer positions in my layers pallet I then used the history brush to remove some of my coloured graduated layers from over the building so that it kept its main colours and wasn’t subject to a obvious red/green gradient.

Flattened the picture then painted over all the building work on the left of the picture with a flat colour similar to the sky (I chose the colour using the colour picker by selecting a area of sky very close to where I was working) and then used a basic brush to do this. This removed all the distraction on the left but left the sky with a big bland and none matching area that looked all wrong.

I then selected the healing brush and selected an area from the sky that I had not touched, this allowed me to use that texture and keep the colour basically the same. Using it at a low opacity I then painted my bland area and matched it to the rest of the sky.

At this point I addressed the composition by selecting a crop to lower the horizon and move the building approximately to the lower third. This is often more favourable and appealing to the viewer.

This altered my vision of the picture and I then decided I could increase the saturation of the sky to give it a bit more impact, I felt the picture could handle it. By using the red channel only and increasing it I got the level I was after without it impacting on the rest of the picture.

I then adjusted the contrast and levels using curves, added my basic border and uploaded.

Total time taken in PS approx 30 mins.—all done on my laptop so the colours and brightness will not be spot on but should be close enough for this purpose.

Good job Steve!

I dunno - all the fun these guys are missing out on.

The extra images are just cut from other pics, resized and pasted in. I haven't even done any softening or blending of edges.

My Effort:

photoshop-comp-1.jpg

Paint Shop Pro 9:

Copied image as a new layer onto ski photo
Using the eraser tool earased the background from the building
Adjusted colour balance to match the snow
Using clone tool built up a 'rough' area of snow around base of building
Merge layers
resize and USM: Radius:1, Strength:60, Clipping:10.

hehe nice one Gregeff!

lol! you will have to pic which you want entered!

Show off!

ooh yeh, forgot it was a comp, thought it was just post it photoshopped for fun :D
