photoshop colour replacement tool help

Afternoon I need help please with using the colour replacement tool on photoshop CC

I have used the tool to try to change the colour of the pink bit on the Cheetahs lip from pink to black so that it blends in with the rest
I have sampled from the black part and painted over the pink part but in comes out grey?

I have used this tool before and it worked a treat but this time it seems to be struggling to change a lighter colour to a dark one
is there a straightforward way of doing this that's not too complicated please?
I have tried using the burn tool to darken it but it didn't work very well

well after a lot of messing about I managed this but it would be handy if there was a straightforward way of changing the colour from pink to black

Colour replacement is not the best tool for something like this.
