Hey folks,
I helping take a a few photos of some cliffs for a climbing guidebook. Does anyone know if the following is recoverable? ?

The landscape image was made by stitching a few photos taken quickly with the auto button, in the rain and about 2hrs before sunset.

If you mean the blured top right hand side then the answers no chance, what exactly did you do to it?

It was a black non coloured due to the gap when stitching them together. I was trying to 'fill' the blank space in :) I cloned and blurred it. I'm not great at PP ...

If it was me I would use this space for some text.

Stew

Is it possible to reshoot that part of it? or does anyone else have a shot with that part you can drop in?

Can you upload a pic rather than a firefox doc cause I am sure you would be able to use the clone tool and tidy it up...

ok save and i will have a go if you like :)

This is the image without the blurring effect. Any idea what I could do 'without' cropping it?

can you do anything yes cry !!!!

No really i took the image and made a selection of what was still there below the blur not much but after several copies of the laye in question some erasing and cloning and finally a little gausian blur around 1 pixel i got to this

it's not perfect but with a little knowledge and some time to play you could improve on it

Ok that didn't work
gimme a moment i will return

Never say never ;)

Just saw that MrG is having a go too. Extensive cloning, a bit of burning in, contrast and some warmth added to those blown out areas to the right.

It's still a little messy but I think it's better than a non-descript blur :)

Ok I don't mean to be critical here but as sombody who actually goes climbing I want to see the real top of the climb, I want to see if theres a way off the top, safe belay etc. While you have done a pretty good job of fixing that from a photo point of view it's a not a very reliable image for a guidebook on that particular climb.
Just my 2p worth.

Hey 'swanseamale47' do you climb at boulders at all? Don't panic I have every intention of reshooting when i'm next in the area but as the saying goes "something is better than nothing". The Wiki is just a place to gather information and any photo is a move forward - albit temporary.
The whole idea of the thread was to improve my own PP skills really and I thank people for their comments. That's what the forum is for :) I've clearly got a lot to learn in the cloning / blurring areas. Does anyone have any reliable online guides? or are we talking loads of practice?

PS: IanClark do you mind if I put your edit up on the wiki until I can either PP a better one or get time to retake the photo? I can't come near your edit and i've tried a few times now ...

By all means. It's your pic mate. Don't hotlink to my gallery though, download the image back and upload to Wiki ;).

Once you've confirmed it's up, I'll remove the image from my gallery.

Thanks for the thought 'Mr G' :)

'swanseamale47' - we need someone to add some pics of the Gower if you happen to have a spare 5 mins. Just register and upload them onto the Wiki :P
