I have set up an action to resize, add a border and also a watermark in photoshop. The action itself works fine, but when i automate it for batch processing it doesn't auto save. Instead, for each image the save as box is opened which required my input to ok it which is not what i want.

I haven't had this problem before and can't see anywhere i may have accidentally changed any settings.

Anyone got any ideas?

I am using photoshop 6.0 if that makes any difference.

Don't worry, i sorted it.
I forgot to add 'flatten image' to the action.

Sorry, i have another little issue now i am hoping someone can help with.

I have previously been using FastStone photo resizer for batch resizing, adding borders, watermarks and renaming in one very simple step. But i did a direct comparison the other day between this and photoshop and found that the image quality was degraded quite noticeably when using FastStone.

It's not enough to worry about for 90% of stuff that gets uploaded to facebook as that monkeys about with the images itself too, but i would like to be able to do the same thing using photoshop when i need to.

Now i am pretty new to actions and i am using photoshop 6.0 if that makes a difference.
I have set up an action that first resizes an image based on height of 800px, then adds a border and then the watermark, flattens the image and then saves. That's not a problem.

However i set this action up on a portrait image, so starts to fall apart for landscape or odd aspect ratio images.

What i would like do do, (and this is something i can do with a simple tick box on FastStone), is set the resize to 800px, but not to either height or width only, but to whatever is the longest side. It would save me having to separate the images into two folders and running two different actions.

The second problem i have, which you can see from the example images below, is the watermark.
On portraits its fine becasse that is what the action was set up on, but on landscape images the watermark is locked to the left of the image. But as the watermark is graduated right to left i would like it locked to the right side. How can i do this?
Or is this something that would be solved by the resizing issue?

Portrait
Watermark is fine.

Landscape
Watermark is locked to the left.

Square
Again, the watermark is locked to the left. (Please excuse the monstrosity clinging onto the singer)

Hi bass junkie

To solve your first problem you need to use File/Automate/Fit Image and set your width and height to 800 pix.

The second problem would be to incorporate Layer/Align Layers to Selection into your action when you add the watermark layer also you might need to nudge into position so it isn't sat right in the corner. Then when you run the action it should be in the same position regardless of shape or orientation

Hope this helps

Thankyou. The image sizing works a treat now.

But i cannot find 'align layers to selection', that appears to be missing from my version of photoshop.

If I remember rightly it should be on PS6, it may be called something slightly different but it will be in the layers menu, also one thing I should have pointed out, you need to select the layer that is to be aligned, otherwise it will be greyed out on the menu.
