I usually put my images through the three PS Auto settings and some USM.

I have noticed sometimes that the Auto Colour option either puts a slight red cast or a green cast to the image which doesn't look right. Perhaps the below images are not the best example as it hasn't done it as much here (I'll try and find a better example). Do most of you (Football/Rugby togs) use the auto setting in PS or not?

It's one of my auto settings, but it's the last in the chain for my actions as it's the most likely to go wrong. I find it worse under floodlights. If necessary I just go back one step in the history.

I try not to use auto colour.. it "seems" to use whatever the predominant colour is and use that as base... green grass.. blue sky...

If I'm going to use it, I prefer to make a curves adjustment layer and Option [alt] click on the Auto button to give me some choices about how Photoshop goes about determining the colour shifts. I tend to find it more reliable.

P.S. This is entirely FWIW. I've never taken a photo of rugby in my life :)

Hope you don't mind me adjusting your image. This is what I did Curves adjustment layer, vibrance adjustment, selective colour adjustment. Quick and simple, you have to have a play with the settings to get the required effect, never use auto there is no control with it.

I think the best advice is don't use these commands on top of one another. Auto Levels seems designed to destroy highlight and shadow detail while introducing massive color casts, Auto Contrast contents itself with destroying highlights and shadows while preserving whatever color cast might be present. Auto Color is the best of the bunch, but you do need to customize it a bit.

I rarely use them, and opt for curves but then I use RAW almost exclusively these days.

oops sorry didn't see the cross as most people leave it open. :cuckoo:

Feel free to post it again, I'll change it to allow editing.

Thanks for that.

Obviously I need to edit my images as quickly as possible, that's why I used the auto settings. I'll look into customizing for my own settings.

I don't think that works if I'm being honest, thanks for posting though.
