Photoshop 3, 4 and 5?

I currently use GIMP and don't feel that I can use it to its full ability. WhenI was at school we used Photoshop and I feel much happier using it and am considerusing it. But im not sure which one to look at.
What are the differences between 3, 4 and 5 as if there is very little i'd be better off saving my bank account and get the cheapest one.

Just newer generations. 5.5 is the very latest, with most people using 4 or 5.

3 will do most you need, but as technology improves, they update the program with new features and faster performance etc.

You might find you are better off with Elements rather than the full PS.

I used PS3,4 and 5.

Personally speaking I prefer PS3, is just simple old Photoshop without all them nice looking (making live more complicated) themes and all that, you shouldn't be bothered about

CS5.x is the latest - but it's actually photoshop 12 or more if you count versions! I started with V3 - it's improved since then.

However it's not always quite as simple as CSXX has so and so, what happens is theres lots of tweeks "under the hood" better sharpening, noise reduction, better upressing etc etc. You can do pretty much anything in photoshop 6.0 if you know what your doing, the new features just make things easier and quicker and can save a lot of time.

I still prefer CS3.

It doesn't mean im not using CS5 at all. im using it quiet often, but prefer CS3 for it simpleness
