If I take my camera out tonight...and someone wants to take a photo with me in (god forbid) would I be best to put it on full auto and set the sigma 500 dg super to ETTL auto as well? Or maybe have the flash bouncing off ceiling to eliminate red-eye...dont want them to have to bother about settings.

In this case... would i have to set the flash to go further if its bouncing off the ceiling, meaning it cant be set to auto??

If in ETTL mode the camera should shut the flash down once the correct exposure has been reached so proby best if giving to a novice to set in auto and let the camera do it's stuff.
 
Sorry forgot to sat that should be regardless of whether flashing direct or bouncing.

Right Janice here's a reference for you:

#1 is flash straight on in ETTL mode, full power.

#2 is flash bounced of ceiling.ETTL and Full power.

#3 is foam "bouncer" attached to cast some of the light forward. Otherwise identical to #2

#4 is flash in manual, 1/2 power, foam bouncer fitted and flash bounce position same as #2 & #3.

Just trying to help!

Took a few shots tonight of nephews, nieces, in-laws, etc so hope to have something to keeep them happy with. Sorry for glaikid look but concenntration and all that - all taken tonight btw so rushing. Only remembered to smile by last shot:D
