Somewhere in the upload settings there is an option to upload high resolution pictures, have a look and see if the box is ticked or not.

Thanks for the reply, yes I've got the box ticked.

But the photos still don't look great.

I weep at what the bloody place does to highlights and night skies...similarly, I've settled on 1000px wide high-quality uploads.
Daylight photos generally not too awful - anything with subtle colour gradients is *murdered*.
Apparantly if you run a business "Page" you can use decent quality PNG uploads - but I'm just a punter uploading for friends/family and wanting my pictures not to look terrible.

AFAIK, the "high quality" setting doesn't actually affect the appearance of the picture you see on the screen, it just allows people to download the high-res version if they want to. I too have noticed FB photos have been poorer quality recently, however I do still see some very sharp photos here and there that make me wonder how they achieve it. There must be a sweet-spot of resolution/size that means FB does minimal resizing.

I've noticed this recently as I upload "game day" shots at the weekend and the quality is poor ( unless it's my pics [emoji51] )
Thought it was just me, I'm going to look into more, I've noticed a few gifs going around that look amazing compared to still images!

Facebook really grinds my gears........

I upload from flickr and just state for the viewrs to click on the fb image for a clearer view, (beginner)
