Yes
I was at windsor horse show yesterday and got a few pics of the shetland grand national (8-14yr olds racing little ponys!)

I posted them on an equine forum I use for people to see - however someone has questioned whether I can legally do this.

I'm not using these pics for promotional or financial gain.

Am I legalally allowed to post these picture on a message forum?

there is no law that says you can't photograph children, however the only thing I can think of is pictures of the actual event. As long as your not selling them you should be fine.

I did have a link to a canon magazine answer on this, but can't find it. If a parent of one of the children request you remove the picture, it would be diplomatic to remove it. There is nothing wrong with showing pictures of an event.

It's wrong when the children are nude etc.

Here's a copy from EOS magazine OCT-Dec 2008.
Question:-
I have just been reading and article in June-September issue. The image are lovely but one thing confuses me. I often want to photograph groups of children playing or people going about their life etc.. . but many competition require that a model releases is required. Did Brett Harkness obtain written permission from the parents of each of the children. I doubt it as this would be impractical. . . . .
Answer.
In the UK there is no privacy law and you can include people in photographs taken in most public places and use the images as you wish, including for commercial gain. However, mny people are not well-verser in the law and it is diplomatice to stop shooting if requested. Other countries have privacy law and different rules apply.

then points to this article:-

hope that helps

The only exception is if the images of children are of a sexual nature, which clearly they will not be. In otherwords, there is nothing in law to stop you posting them.

Unless it's a private event or on private ground. Most equine events are on private land so if they say you no take piccys, you no take piccys!

eg, not equine related but try taking your camera into the Open golf comp!
