Photos not in order

My better half has sorted out some of her images into "holiday folders" and saved them in date taken order on an external hard drive. When we look at them on the large screen (t.v. - shock horror), why do the image revert to alphabetical order? What am I doing wrong, apart from viewing them on a TV?

Think it's to do with how you label them. Something to do with the way they are read or so I believe. I had this problem and had to be creative to overcome it. No doubt one of our geeks will be along shortly with a proper answer.

Managed to sort it. Got them in the order I wanted, select all ... then rename them Lakes - they were then called Lakes 1 Lakes 2 etc
