Has anybody ever bought or used studio lights from Photomart?

Apart from Bowens, there are some brands on there I've never heard of, and many of them seem to be quite cheap:

  • Imagers
  • Legend
  • Fomei (I know that they make a rebranded FlashWaves)
  • Premier Plus
  • Classic
  • Sunlight
  • Electra

I know "you get what you pay for", "if it's too good to be true...", "cheap Chinese tat" etc.

I have been looking at some of the lights sold by Photomart too. I looked at the Electra Classics. I did a little digging and found out they are made in Thailand by a company called Ekasilp and are pretty well respected over there. I couldn't find any reviews though so it would be good to hear if anyone has used them. Don't really want to ask Photomart as they are selling them so they're not gonna tell you if they are rubbish.

Hi

My advice would be, don't just look for initial cost. Look at the aftersales support and compatibility with modifiers.

On a budget I would personally always recommend the Elinchrom D Lite range, the new ones have built in skyports (big plus!). The quality is great and they will be fine as long as you don't drop them constantly, and you can start accumulating Elinchrom modifiers...which are...although expensive...absolutely awesome! Invest in them over time.

Check out www.theflashcentre.com

Hope that helps
