Yes
quite a few years ago now i picked up a camera, went to London on my own, took a few pictures and up loaded them at home. For my sister to say wow James i think you might have talent.

Today I am more confident and i believe improved greatly, but sadly have lsot time for my camera.

Though it made me think, i am about to go into film making.
I thought i would be a photographer, but after a while the whole buzz wained and i wanted more.

I am now a confident Photographer and Graphic designer and student film maker.

Now it makes me think, if i hadn't of taken that camera out that day would i of discovered that i had a flare for art?

Photography gave me a career.

How about you??

James

Interesting read and a complete oppposite to me...

I started by buying a Camcorder because it was reduced in a sale. I took it to that years British F1 GP and pretty much recorded the entire event, I then took the footage and editted it into a 15min clip with nice effects and music... Whilst doing this I realised Id spent that much time and concentration filming the event that I had no clue who had finished in the top 3....

This made me think that a camera would do a good job at capturing the event, but, without the need to be stuck behind the viewfinder all weekend. I bought a cheap compact camera, attended the next GP and was totally dissatisfied with the results, then I bought a hybrid camera and was shocked how bad the images were so replaced it was a basic DSLR (300d) after the next GP i posted some of my "Snaps" on the internet and they got picked up by a Redbull racing press site, which was nice... This inspired me to try harder and I soon found that my gear was holding me back, so over the course of the next few British F1 GP events I upgraded to Pro gear (1dmkII+300f2.8IS) and im now getting decent shots that ive had printed in several motorsport magazines and publications, however, due to me being nothing but an interested amatuer I cannot get decent track access to improve my positioning to get better shots...

This is now causing me to lose interest in Photography as I know ive kinda hit my F1 limit and there is no point me photographing another F1 event as the shots will look just the same as this and last years photos...

So, film work led to a photography hobby and that hobby is now dieing off. :(

Photography has given me years of frustration and I wouldn't have missed any of it, I'm still as crap today as I was back when I started but I still enjoy trying.

I'd been doing photography for years mostly B&W self processing, a friend had to have a lung collapsed he never smoked and blamed it on working in a not very well ventilated darkroom, just like me, I packed it in.

Digital cameras changed everything and the DSLR's are magnificent. It's like having umpteen rolls of different film all in the same body.

Oooray! :-)

James
