Oh dear, hope you get the advice your after:thumbs:

what could possibly go wrong?

I'm going to fetch some popcorn, anyone else want some while I'm out?

New at photography, and you're doing a wedding event, and using just the kit lens? You certainly jumped into the deep end!

If your that much of a novice to Photography- I would avoid the wedding photographer job, like the plague :gag: you'll only mess it up and maybe loose some friends to boot, as a wedding is a very important event and the happy couple , Im sure - will want a record of events, to be well shot, clear in focus and well presented

If you can do all of that-and with just a kit lens, then Good Luck

Just my opinion

Les

and Ive just Noticed your sig-( MeeMeez photography ) are you having a laugh???????

Hi and welcome to TP.Can I just say that new photographers taking on a wedding ,has the ability to wind up a lot of people on here,so beware:thumbs: You are taking on a lot with your friends wedding this week. Other more experienced photographers will be along shortly to give their views:shrug:. I have no idea about wedding albums et al. I would say that you are going to have a difficult job with just a kit lens. To get out of focus backgrounds, you need to have a large aperture (That's a small F/ number) I would imagine that the 18-55 is a maximum aperture of F4.5 at 18mm and F5.6 at 55mm. Set your camera to A mode and have a play with the camera to see what type of background blur you get.Best of luck:thumbs:

Troll-lol-lol..

.. popcorn time..

Buttered for me please!

Somehow, I think someone is going to have their bubble burst.............

Oh, for what it's worth....

Don't do the wedding, you're going to ruin the best day of a girls life. The day she get's married. And her thoughts about you won't be very kind. Offer to take shots by all means, but please don't tell her you will be the wedding tog..................

Said it, but think it's not going to make any difference.....

I've little doubt that my input is likely to cause a stir along with some "interesting" responses but here goes anyway:

Even with several years of photography (both film & digital), I still consider myself very much a newby.
Ironically I have been requested to shoot a wedding in June for a couple who are basically in no financial position to pay for a proffessional wedding photographer.....they are simply offering to pay my expenses (fuel etc) and allow me to use their big day to obtain experience and to add their wedding images to my portfolio.
Unlike the OP, I lack confidance, believing that my work will be unsatisfactory for the happily married couple, hence I am having a serious debate with myself as to wether to take the work on board ......the couple I might add are more than confident in my abilities having seen my present portfolios.
Returning to the OP, I personally feel that Meemee could possibly surprise a few of us with what he produces on the day.
Admittedly, lack of experience and indeed equipment will not go in his/her favour but the fact that the 18-55 "kit" lens is condemned so much is somewhat unfair.....Some of my best shots have come from kit lenses and with all due repsect, some of us simply cannot afford to pay out for "pro" gear!
If the OP is confident that he can produce the photos that the married couple wish for and the couple fully understand that he is very much an amature etc etc ....then who are we to dictate his/her abilities.
Without doubt offering a line of negative and irritated responses will help no end ....NOT!
Lets give the guy a break, some encouragement and some practical advice ...mine being that if he can run to a nifty fifty before the event, then he will at least have a decent portrait lens which will offer him the out of focus blur he is asking about!
As for the albulm etc, I'm afarid I cant help but I'm sure there is someone on here who can.
Good luck!

The fact that they referred to having a shallow depth of field as " background out of focus" really doesn't instil confidence that they have knowledge on the basics.

Mmmmm so to have knowledge in something means one has to express the correct term.....How many people on here have got aperture mixed up .... F22 a small or large aperture??......Not expressing the so called correct term does not mean one has a lack of knowledge!

This is a wind up. /thread, I believe

Possibly so .....interesting what responses it provokes though!

The fact that I have no knowledge/ experience of shooting a wedding makes think I would receive similar feedback if I asked advice on what I should decide to do with the work I've been offered.

I think that the problem here, and from what you said it would not apply to you (and I must admit, I still think this may be a wind up) is that the OP by their own admission has very little photography knowledge or suitable equipment but has 'begged' their friend to let him/her be responsible capturing a once in a lifetime (ideally!) occasion. To add to all that, a wedding is a notoriously difficult subject to shoot for so many reasons to start with and the photographer does not get a chance to slow things down or press the pause button. They get one chance and it all happens at a thousand mph.

[*]Cheap Quality Album with Gift Box

Cheap AND quality.

You don't want much.

and going by your major lack of knowledge, and assuming that this is a genuine post, I'm imgaing that the contents of the album will most certainly not be any kind of quality, so I don't suppose it matters what you put it inside.

Oh and P.s. for the 'background out of focus' just press the BOOF button, most cameras have one, it makes it automatic. ;-) If you can't find it, it might be in a menu.

Paul.

I think if you had said that you were just going to take some pics and there would be a pro there instead of "...and they have allowed me to be there photographer after alot of begging" you'd have got a much more helpful response.

Anyway, good luck with it and a 50mm 1.4 will indeed be a handy tool.

All you need to do is go to the deed pol office and change your name to Ken Rockwell.

That little snippet of information would have saved you some grief, had you said so in your original post!
