Off to Durham for a couple of days soon & wondered if anyone had any suggestions, mainly landscape photography but always willing to have a go at something different

thanks

Simon

That sounds ideal Michelle, we're actually staying in the Washington area a bit north of Durham anyway, the waterfalls in particular look excellent

thanks

That whole Coast line is lovely, Bamburgh castle is a little bit of a drive north but always worth a visit.

But as previously said Barnard Castle and High Force are well worth a visit. If you go to High force don't forget to walk down stream and look at low force also :)

No worries, hope you have a good time - i used to live in barney and go up to high force quite a lot - not been up there with the camera yet - think i'll have to rectify that soon!

Would love tosee pics if you go!

Don't be tempted to try photography inside Durham Cathedral. A total ban is in place :gag:

If going to high force please watch out for busy family days such as sundays.... toatle bedlam... but a great place to take pic's as someone said Barny is great also. you also have whitby and tan hill to mention a few within reach...

heard some good things about Durham Cathedral, worth a look, not been myself

As mentioned, the Bridges in Newcastle are worth a look, the Angel of the North aswell and after that it depends on how far you want to travel

Thanks again for the suggestions....

How about coastline, I've seen many shots of St Marys Lighthouse near Whitley Bay so will try & visit, is the coastline further North/South worth a look too ?

I replied to one of your other threads mate - Im off to durham tomorrow morning at 11am meeting a college friend whos recently bought a d90 we're out about practising.

Best places would be down by the river front, the cathederal really. Theres a good chance the train station in durham will be worth a look, try some shots on the trains :)

The train station is nearby the bus station, if you cross the roundabout where the station is, and head up and right up the hill its pretty hard to miss, and the train track/bridge is over it!

You might see me if you goto durham tomoz, I got blue hair - Cant miss me lol.

St Marys is always worth a visit, up the coast you have Holy Island, Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh castles. Angel of the North, Newcastle Quayside, Roman Wall, all iconic Northern images not too far from where your staying.

If you're stopping in Washington you could go to Penshaw Monument.

There's a lighthouse on the coast north of sunderland/newcastle. Can't remember where - sorry, but it opens on certain days as well.
