Joseph Spina has posted several videos on YouTube showing him giving a Nikon D3 a real working over. In four separate clips, Spina, whose YouTube profile describes him as a photography student in California, is shown scraping a metal key over the camera's rear LCD, placing a floor vacuum hose inside the mirror box, dropping the camera from a high height and - the most bizarre of all - dumping all manner of foods and liquids on it and an attached AF-S Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8G ED.

it is some lame publicity stunt by someone to try and attract a bit of business their way - shock-tactic style?

Now I'm a Canonite.....but....that dropping of the D3 made me cringe.....

What a nut job..

I think he might have a few screws loose.... or a clone of his fathers credit card....

Complete fruitloop..

But will it blend?

its a d3, it can take the abuse. in fact, give it more!:bat:

the guy however, is a complete tit.

I recognise his demeanor, he's not stupid....well....from a speech perspective, I think he's deaf...

I just sent him a message :D lets see if he replies :D

:naughty: Great stuff! I was watchin more of the chap's you tube viddies, not all of them are extreme 'test' demo's.
Joseph mentions "As a Nikon Professional Member (N.P.S.) and Director of Photography of Western Coast for National Geographic, I enjoy traveling across the world to help new entry photographers!"

To me, it makes more sense to arrive at the assumption that Nikon endorsed Joseph Spina to make the said extreme demo's than condemn him as a rich kid with no brains, smashing expensive gear for no reason whatsoever.

I don't blame anyone for thinking the guys stark raving nuts, it was certainly my initial reaction and maybe the intention?

The drop test video has been seen over 120,000 times in three months. I'm no marketing expert but surely it arouses suspicion?

Interesting to say the least.

All the best

This is what i sent him :D

Nikon D3...

Hi there do you suffer from any mental health issues, as if your going to treat a perfect camera like that you really do need yourself checked over!!! I'm only saying this as i love cameras and i cannot stand people abusing them you should be locked up.

Please do reply,
Ben

Gonna give him a couple days to reply as i bet he has ALOT of hate mail :naughty:

It seems I made a mistake in expressing interest to your post, I made the assumption you sent a mail regarding his relation with Nikon. In that case I'm not interested in the result as I think your mail is irrelevant, immature and completely pointless. Sorry.

Fair enough, your entitled to your opinion so nothing to be sorry about!

on a plus note its only a nikon, i would be upset if it was a proper camera... like a canon ;)

It's only one camera out of what, several thousand? The extra sales generated by the videos far outstrips only one D3. And it's not like Nikon do any stress tests either, right? ;)

Do you honestly expect him to reply to that?

The only reason i'd reply to a message like that on YouTube is because no one sends me any. I'd probably just reply something like 'blow me' though. Not to mention the quality of English reads like a 5 year old sent it.

156, Don't you just love goodbyes?

Are you a Mew fan at all there Richie?

Does the crying elephant hidden in the numbers not give it away? :p

Ha ha, good man. I commend your taste Sir  I've seen them live once at the Academy in Brum, they delivered some pretty serious goods, amazing peformance!

I've not been on the ball enough to catch them live yet :(

Very good band though, I thoroughly enjoy their music.

The bloke is not mad. He's a professional tog and he has a D3. If he wants to prove it's strength by trying to destroy it let him. The results speak from themselves, and if it breaks or gets damaged it's his/Nikons loss. It won't bother me anymore than someone buying a Ferrari to use for a dart board. I couldn't give a monkeys who financed it or the underlying reason for the clip in the first place. The point is I watched it and I know stuff about the D3 I didn't before - advert or not.

The message sent to him above is rude, disgraceful and clearly sent by someone who is not mature enough to write coherent, articulate or even valid prose - as such it should be ignored like most of the similar tosh people post on you tube.

It's predictable that, one day, that psychotic, utterly decadent, spoilt brat is going to commit suicide.

Jacco, Welcome to the forum.
I mean this in the most friendly way possible - personally, I'd read if not all, or at least, the last few posts before making a strong statement, especially as Joseph is no 'spoiled brat' or even mildly 'psychotic', he's a really nice, friendly and very helpful chap as a matter of fact.
Joseph works with Nikon and is more than happy to answer any questions you may have regarding Nikon gear.

lol he may be daft and deaf jacco but hes not stupid :D

I am afraid this does nothing for me, it gives me the impression that if I want a camera for knocking nails in a Nikons the one, however I use a camera for taking photos, and I haven't seen him do that with it yet. Wayne

Most hostile thread on TP yet? Most probably. Frankly I think this dude is genius. If he's a moron then what are you for all going to watch despite the posts of those before you? He's laughing at you. He's got hundreds of thousands of hits. I wish I could come up with an idea like that to make me 'famous'/'infamous' depending on what way you look at it.

I found the videos quite interesting partly because we just bought one of these cameras for our London studio and actually makes me wish I could afford one personally.

Hmm those videos have inspired me...Might use a nikon as a plate....

:p

Joking ofc
