Hopefully we will be getting some snow this weekend up my way, about time too!

I have never shot any snowy shots before and just want to know if there are any tips you could offer? Anything to look for so I dont get grey looking snow?

Thanks :)

adjust white balance for conditions.

probably worth additing a bit of +ve exposure compensation otherwise the sensor will try to make the snow 18% grey.

Shoot RAW for maximum tweakage...

Saw this on the news this morning, put the batteries on charge at lunchtime. I'm ready :D

If you can't use an incident meter - over expose to avoid the snow looking grey.

I'm looking forward to it. Just dont want my hands to turn blue like they did last night!

I made that mistake the first time I shot snowboarding, I have some thin glove in my camera bag now!

How about posting in here when/if you get snow at your place. I am thinking of going to the Peak District tomorrow morning if it snows there for photos, if anyone on this site is passing the Ladybower area tonight then post on here if there is any snow over there ;)

The general rule of thumb is to add +1.5 to +2.0 stops of exposure compensation to your metering to prevent the snow looking grey. Shoot RAW to allow yourself the ability to fine tune the exposure later :)

Great advice. I'm waiting for snow! Nothing yet though. Camera is already to go,.

Thats exactly what I did in Lapland last year and it worked a treat

Looks like very little chance here now "we" are no longer in the "red bit" Light showers predicted after dark..........
its just about dark the clouds are banking up........

It started snowing here in Norwich about 7pm and its settling! Can't wait for the morning.

I got sent home early from school today due to blizzard conditions at about 12 o clock, good stuff !

So where are your pictures then! :D

EDIT - Its now snowing like hell here!

Snow here in Manchester.

I'm not going to actually go to bed tonight. Gonna go out just before dawn (bout 7am ish) and go outside the city a bit to some countryside to get some sunrise snow shots. Been meaning to do some sunrise countryside shots for a while now, now that there's snow here it seems like a better time than ever :D
