Hi everyone. New member here, I apologies if this has been asked a ton of times before, but I'm looking for opinions on online photo sharing services. Ideally I want to share with friends that I select - they'll be of a limited tech. ability so the easier for them to access the better.

Could you post your opinions on what's best, why it's best, and possibly which services to avoid?

or links to similar threads that can answer my questions?

Thanks.

FlickR? You can set photos to be private or public on a pic by pic basis and password protect the private ones. The same is probably true for the other sharing sites like Photobucket et al.

im in a similar position as well, my brother uses smugmug but im just not sure which to use!

Bear in mind that using Flickr, you'll only get so many uploads a month before you get capped. I *think* I uploaded 30 during December and then it asked me to wait until January. I'm just weighing up myself if I should go "Pro" and pay for it.

I use photo bucket but I find it messy. I'm looking for an alternative myself.

I think photo bucket does a good enough job, I pay £19 a year for 20GB storage.

you could also use a free dropbox account if you only want to share with family & friends without uploading them to sites like flickr, very easy to setup & share folders

You can get a free "Pro" account with Flickr if you are a BT infinity user. This will enable you to unlimited uploads.

Flickr is handy. When I take pictures of my friends' children (with their consent, of course) horseriding, I put them on flickr as private and give the parents and children a guest pass to access them. I have tried to get them to create a free account so I can just set them as private/friends only, but apparently that's too complicated!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I've got myself a flickr account now.

How about Facebook or Insagram? Anyone use these much to share photos?

My wife and I use Facebook for sharing with friends and family just because everyone has an account but the image quality is limited and pictures are never shown full size.
I use Flickr as the options are much better and the privacy settings are easier to configure.
Instagram if you're a hipster shooting on an iSomething.

Dropbox is the best for sharing with friends and family. As you can just Email them the link, they open the link and there is a "Download all" option to download all your shared photos in full quality.

Flickr is great for sharing on forums, mostly because you can upload a large photo and they automatically resize it down to suitable size for forums. Requires a bit more clicking if you want to restrict photos to different groups of people.

Facebook is very very low quality. It's not designed for photography. Okay for letting them have a preview, but if you want to share photo for them to be kept themselves, FB is a very bad option.
