Photography publications with a more artistic leaning?

I am looking to subscribe to a magazine or periodical exploring contemporary photography, photography as art or similar. Nothing like "5 creative projects you must try this summer", "Take creative control of your DSLR" or "The best prosumer cameras reviewed". Something which will showcase new publications, exhibitions or similar with plenty of portfolios, interviews with photographers etc... I am looking at the British Journal of Photography or Photoworks (but preferably more frequently than annually). Can anyone suggest any others to look at?

The Royal Photographic Society Journal is very good. Recent interview with David Bailey. It's a real read and not in the same league as 'How to photograph fireworks in November' etc etcetera. You have to be a member of the RPS to receive it, It also opens the door to further learning, seminars etc.
 
BJP is very good as a print magazine, there are also a few online only magazines that emphasise artistic portfolios - Square and Le Negatif spring to mind but there are many more. Have a look on Zinio and Issuu.
 
Black and white photography magazine is good, no use if you only do colour though......
There's also some good ones that you'll only find in proper bookshops, but I can't think of their names off the top of my head.
Some of the American ones are more fine art oriented, aperture, lenswork etc.
 
If you like landscapes try On Landscape. It's a bi-weekly online magazine - that, BJP and Black+White Photography are the ones I regularly read. Another I get most issues of is Aesthetica, it's not a photography magazine but does contain a lot of photographic work.

That should cover you for contemporary photography. No amateur b******t in any of those... just information, folio reviews, and the latest creative industry stuff, and showcases of great contemporary work. Not a tutorial in sight.

The RPS publication is a bit.... naff TBH. The whole of the RPS is a bit naff and doesn't really showcase much truly innovative work. It's worth a read, but very mainstream compared to the above list.

That's just your opinion. I disagree, there are some very contemporary and innovative images. Lots of very interesting interviews.

BJP has always been a good read. Twenty five years ago there was also two pages of jobs in most issues. How times have changed !
 
The trouble with the RPS (and by extension its mag) is that it's supposed remit is to promote excellence, but it's a bit stuffed-shirt. Like a glammed-up and hyperfocussed camera club, or somebody dressed for a round of golf. And they want your money. I'd rather live wild and try to be true to myself.

In print, I get BJP and Source. I'd dignify them by the generic category of journals rather than magazines. Magazines are repetitive and stuffed with adverts. Amateur Photographer is a dire example of this on its limp paper, but there are glossier titles just as bad. Not to denigrate everyone whose work appears in those titles by any means, but ...
