Hi everyone,

I stumbled upon a program called "Photoxplorers" on the Travel Channel on Sky. Here is the link to an overview of the program and when all the episodes are on:

http://www.travelchannel.co.uk/series-info.asp?series=PhotoXplorers&ID=1337&episode=1#1

Basically, it's about a small group of American photographers (professional and enthusiast) who visit six dilapidated buildings or factories and take photo's of them. They do it in secret and that's one of the interesting parts of the program - how they gain access and the dangers they must go through (i.e. entering an old sanatorium via the sewers).

There are very few technical photographic elements to the show, gear and settings aren't mentioned but the locations are fascinating and the photo montages near the end are good.

I recommend it

Sounds like a great programme covering urban exploration... shame I haven't got sky :(

Damn. If this was on a couple of days ago I could of watched it at home. Now I'm back at Uni I have no tv and no sky! Do sky have some kind of iplayer thing where I can watch it on the internet at a later date?

Can't series link with remote record :bang:

I've set the two for this week to record. I'll just have to hope I remember the others when I get home.

What time is this on?? and thanks Pork for the ch number!

Thanks for that  Set to record, for some reason I didn't get the option to series link:thinking:

The abandoned sanitorium next week looks like it could be good. I've not got sky so I asked a mate of mine if he could record them for me. It'll give me something to do when i should be working.

It's 9:30pm, or 10:30pm on Travel Channel +1.

Repeated on a Friday evening too. They appear to be rotating the series as episode 6 (the last of the series) was on last Sunday and now they are showing episode 1 tonight.

I couldn't "series link" it either:thinking:

Just been outside and cleared 5 inches of snow off the dish so that I can record this. I hope it's a good programme :)

I'd be interested to read why people thought it was crap?

I thought it was quite good, but there again I do quite a bit of exploration myself so I'm perhaps watching it from a different perspective.

imo very little detail about photography, more about the building, would have like 2 see a lot more photos and some post pro.
it could have been a lot longer with more detail.
cheers.

I watched a couple of episodes a few weeks ago. I was hoping to be inspired, as I struggle to have any imagination when it comes to shooting derelict buildings and I hoped to learn something. Indeed, I think I have a very poor eye for photography altogether and I really struggle to find ways to create an interesting image from the scene before me, whatever it might be. I looked forward eagerly to the first episode.

I'm afraid I was not inspired. For me it was a case of "Nothing to see here, move on.". For me, a photograph either has to evoke a memory of part of my life, to be artistic enough to put on my wall, or to be saleable. If it is none of those things, why bother? Documentary photos of relics, with little artistic or creative merit, don't float my boat. I wouldn't call it "crap", just not my thing. I have not bothered with it since.

Fair enough. For me, it was more about the photographers and exploring, rather than about how to take photos of derelict buildings, which to be fair, is as it was described on the link.

If you want photographic inspiration, look at photographs, not TV. There's tons of urbex sites on the web, some poor, some very, very good. I'd recommend the likes of http://abandoned-places.com/, http://contaminationzone.com/, http://www.abandoned-britain.com/ if you want inspiration for photographing derelict buildings. You may even consider looking at my own website as well............;)

Hi everyone,

I'm one of the (Canadian) photographers on the show. viewfromthenorth is correct in that it isn't about the photographs themselves, though that is part of it, it is more about the what, where and why of our type of photography.

r1andy: I agree that it could have been longer. A lot ended up on the cutting room floor (most of those locations we were inside filming for at least 4 hours).

To those who watched it and didn't like it: We appreciate that it isn't everyone's cup of tea. Thanks for taking the time to check it out once, though.

oh gutted i missed it, seen one before though, i love urbex and photography so is right up my street

1:30am there showing again,
edit: sorry no there not im reading my a-z wrong lol

I watched this and enjoyed it, as allready said it wasn't a photography programme as such but I watched it from a building point of view not photography. I have done some urbex stuff and for me it's about documenting the old buildings before they are pulled to the ground.

Perhaps I'll give it another go, although I'm really only interested in the photography, not the exploration. Here is the schedule for upcoming showings on Sky Travel, channel 251. It is also repeated an hour later on the +1 channel....

Wow! Hi Sean, I never thought that someone associated with the program would respond! Thanks for joining the forum.

I enjoy the show a lot, it's one of the few that has a photography theme and I find it motivating (it made me think differently about my urban environment and I even found myself talking to the security guard of a derelict WWII anti-aircraft gun factory near my home - he refused entry and had a big dog):nono:

Is there another series planned? I know that the current one has only just ended (in the UK at least) but another series would be great -especially if the episodes could be extended slightly to feature more photographs and even a little bit of technical guidance....

Regards,
