One for our London contingent. I've just been speaking with the City of London film permission office (long story, very dull) and one of the things they mentioned is that they are trying to prevent virtually all 'serious' photography on the Barbican estate itself owing to the residents there getting annoyed by it.

Tourist snaps: fine. Standing there getting the light on Cromwell Tower just right: not fine. Taking multiple photographs across the estate: definitely not fine.

I used to take loads round there and was never stopped so I don't know how these concerns are being applied but just thought I'd give you all a heads up that the Barbican may not be particularly photographer-friendly at the moment.

I've taken pictures inside the estate recently and didn't get any hassle. Saying that it's not really surprising the resident wouldn't want photographers hanging around their estate. If you want something just walk around, shoot it then move on.

I should add that when I mentioned St Alphage Highwalk which is just off the estate he said there would be no issue at all there.

Thanks for the nod ...

I can't help but be cynical

Why do the City of London film permission office think its ok to support the complaints of the residents of a housing estate?
Is it because they want the residents to live in piece or because they'd like to become the guardians for the area, rationing any serious photography, but still keeping it available for film licence paying photographers.

Bit odd isn't it.

The easy way to avoid this being a problem is to get imaginative and find different locations away from the milkround..
