Photography Monthly and Professional Photographer to Cease

Just find the last 2 years' worth of PM and change the years... Not being a pro, I've never bought a copy of PP so can't comment on any repetition in that magazine.

I've bought PP a couple of times - not at all like AP, but probably too small & specialised a market and can't compete with the internet.

I've bought Photography Monthly for many years off and on. And over the last year I've bought both almost every month or so because they they have been packaging the two magazines together, the current version of one, with a month or two older version of the other, and two magazines for the price of one was a bargain. :)

Sad to see them go, especially Photography Monthly. :(

I used to get photography monthly until a redesign a couple of years ago. Turned it into some lifestyle tat of a magazine. It also became boring anyway as they had the same things over and over as the years went by.

I only have AP. I rarely remember to read it though so it piles up until I have a reading binge and magazine recycling fest :)

Our library had PM available for loan, did occasionally buy it before its relaunch, can see why it failed

Professional Photographer was a good and interesting read until it had a makeover and (to me) dumbed down.

Absolutely agree. Not bought it since. Not surprised it has gone under.

I am sure the only reason the Future publications have not gone the same way as this from Archant, is they tend to be double the price of everything else, so the mark up is greater. But another I try to avoid these days, due to the ridiculous cost per issue.

Plus some mags are desperately condescending. Written by journos 'pretending' to be pro photographers, but can't even hold a camera properly themselves.

I used to buy PM back in the day - it didnt compare well to Practical photography as an enthusiast magazine , especially after Will Cheung left. more recently Iv'e bough Proffesional a few times but for a magazine aimed at proffesionals it seemed awfully noddy in content.

I used to like digital photographer - until again that dumbed down

The only magazine i buy regularly now is outdoor photography.

Even as a beginner I found the articles, particularly tutorials, to lack depth and gave up buying photography magazines in favour of forums and internet articles. It's not that forums are free, it's that the magazine articles were too basic to be of any use.

I started my career working on a Photography magazine (Practical Photography) in the early 90s. The magazines were well financed took photography very seriously and made sure the content was up to scratch with pro photos used to illustrated articles. In the last couple of years I've tried to supply a couple of freelance articles and the payment is so low it was equivalent to less than minimum wage when you take int account the time it took to get the images and research and write the articles. So Pro photographers don't bother anymore so the magazines are full of boringly written copy and pictures anyone could take, so what's the point of buying them? Its no wonder they have gone really. Many niche market magazines are now in a race to the bottom.
