Until now.

I've taken some OK shots, some I thought were pretty good but never one that got me really excited, until today.

I went to Oulton at the weekend, met knocker and we spent most of the day walking round the track trying to find a good spot for the superbikes, I went to three sisters last year but struggled with panning so thought i'd get some practice in

I took a lot of shots on Saturday, when I got home I put the best up on here

This one stood out so I had a play in NX2 and printed it out on the A3 printer and it looks stunning, I still can't believe I took it, a real eureka moment.

show me your eureka shots, the one that made all that money you spent worth it because that's what this is to me, proof it wasn't all a waste of money

To be honest, I've never really taken an amazing shot, that makes me think it's all worth it suddenly. I like looking back at my old shots, and noticing that I've improved, but that's all! It's only a hobby for me, and as long as I enjoy taking photos, no matter how bad they are, I'll consider it money well spent!

hey!, thats a great shot :) my eureka shot came two years after having my first dslr (many years since starting photography)... it was the moment where I relised if i actually tried really...really hard, then i could get the shot. Im a very shy guy, and the ramp where this shot was taken was in the middle of a huge semi circular fence (directly behind camera)... linned with many many people watching the guys do there tricks. Even though i was only taking photos... was so scared... but the results... I couldnt have been happier.

That shot and this shot - No where near as good as some of the shots out there but I lost confidence in shooting the music stuff, especially when I saw what one of the other photogs was taking. When I got that set it rekindled my excitement for gig stuff.

Might I suggest a little saturation boost to your picture to really make it pop? Just my personal preference of course.
I'm still waiting (not so patiently) for the eureka moment!
 
James I am shooting a band next week, Can I ask was this rear curtain and dragged the shutter for the rear?
 
fallen-mathi, that's a wicked shot. My snowboarding shots never turn out that good!!!
 
Firstly, :clap: congrats mate, that is one hell of a picture!
I know exactly where you are coming from. Over the past few months, basically when I started meeting up with the guys from our TP outings, I didn't have many good shots.

Now I have a few, which really inspire me, make me very excited and very confident. Although I put most of them down to luck!

This could be one of the first shots that really REALLY made me excited, and very proud:

I totally love this shot, and it blows me away every time I look at it!
 
There are a few that come to mind but i loved taking this one as your average person would have got the chair sharp and the face and eyes soft whereas being a tog we know that manual focus is needed here. I felt that i had turned a corner when i took this pic.

I've only been attempting photography since December, but quite quickly got excited at the possibility of having found a hobby, which would get me out of the house more and produce some sort of "end product" :).

My first "wow" shot came quite quickly (in January), when I caught this little fella stealing some sunflower seeds that I'd thrown down to attract the birds. There's such a guilty expression on his face, befitting his actions :suspect:, that I just can't help but love it :D!

Picture the scene...

20 past 8 on an August evening, you've been sat out for the past hour waiting for the train to come. Got a Nikon 50mm on the camera, and its wide open. The clouds seem to part behind me, letting a few dying rays drop through, and in the distance, the train I'm waiting for appears, and the clouds in the background darken....

It gets to within 50m, and away the shutter goes..

this is one of my faves

it was more of an accident !! it isn't cropped at all

I know theres loads wrong with it and to a lot of people its not up to much

but i like it for some reason

The first shot I ever took that made me go 'wow' This was in May last year, using an EOS 400D and an 11 year old, second hand Canon 75-300mm USM lens. No PP apart from a crop either, I didn't understand all that back then. Now I look at it, with all my new gear and my hugely increased understanding of photography, and it isn't that good. At the time I was amazed I'd got anything like this.

This one made me so glad I'd upgraded over the winter to a 40D and a Sigma 120-400mm IS lens, and that I've learnt how to PP and use Photoshop. There's no way this would have looked half as good with my old gear. Almost makes the £1100 I spent worthwhile :lol:

I'd done a little film photography before after doing a few short courses, but never really took it seriously until I got my first dslr, the d40x where my interest really took off.

I think one of the shots that really got me was my first attempt at night photography with my d40x. No processing here apart from resizing, so its not dead straight and could do with a bit of sharpening etc. But all in all I was quite pleased with the result.
