I have 3 days off with nothing to do this week so im thinking of having a little trip to the lake district. I've never been before so im a bit stuck with ideas for a general area and specific places to go to.

Im looking for lots of nice scenery to photograph and im planning on camping on sunday and possibly monday night.

So, where would you reccomend?
 
I camping to the far side of Wast Water earlier this year, at a place called Wasdale. Directly below Scarfel Pike. Well worth a visit.
 
Wasdale is brilliant but a bit remote. You're cut off from the rest of the Lakes there, unless you drive a long way or you like big walks. Langdale might be better - there are several places to camp, I believe, from Chapel Stile along to the end of the valley. The scenery in Langdale is (like Wasdale) teriffic, but you'd also have reasonably convenient access to Lake Windermere, plus the towns of Ambleside and Windermere (which could come in handy if it's wet). Or alternatively, somewhere in the Hartsop/Patterdale area is also really scenic, with great access to the hills and Ullswater on the doorstep.

But the most important thing is to go. If you've never been to the Lakes before you'll be amazed. It is without doubt the most beautiful part of England.

Langdales, Loughrigg area. plenty to see around here.

Go north to the Keswick end.
Buttermere is worth a visit as you've got Crummock water and Buttermere lake, plus the Honister pass, with the slate mine, then down the road to Rosthwaite.

One of the lakes has a steamer on it - Derwent? You can get the steamer one way, or part of the way and walk back along the lakeside.

Oh and if you want somewhere really nice to stay, Armathwaite Hall hotel on the banks of the Bassenthwaite lake is very nice. Early morning, around the north west side of thew lake is just beautiful with the mist
 
There have been threads on lake district locations before so searching the forums may come up with more suggestions.
