Hi All

Has any one done this course?
What are people's thoughts?

I'm totally new to photography and think that the days course that James runs looks like really good value for money at £75 for the day, but also want to make sure that I'm getting my moneys worth.

Having been on group courses before sometimes the group size is too big and you don't get enough time or you don't get to cover everything in the day as some people are struggling and therefore slowing the group down.

Thanks in advance for your replies

Cheers

Paul

Haven't done the course - but I can tell you James is a first class photographer.

It's a good question to which I'd like to know the answer as well! Just because someone is a very good photographer it doesn't mean they are good at running a course to teach otheres....

I can think of a whole bunch of tp'ers that have attended my workshops and been very pleased with them, their feedback is on my website. Hopefully they will stumble across this thread and tell you themselves :D

Last year I attended the Lighting Fundamentals course with 3 other TP'ers and had an amazing day

James's teaching style and subject knowledge, along with his passion for photography immediately puts you at ease and creates an engaging environment

We covered the basics (a recap of Photography Fundamentals) to ensure everyone was familiar with the manual settings of their cameras before learning about ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed, and how they interact when using flash

We covered off reading the histogram (more useful than you'd imagine) before starting on practical flash application (the right and wrong ways of using flash - as well as when to use flash (and when not to))

We learned about modifiers and how they affect the light and then moved outdoors to cover a number of topics that we had discussed indoors.

Throughout the process we were able to shoot images on our own cameras and then compare them as a group or in pairs, with constructive feedback given by James

The course not only puts you in control of your camera which allows you to light pretty much anything with confidence, but also has a support feature where you can email images to James for critique.

This course allowed me to take my photography to a new level and I can't thank James enough for his guidance, and the freedom this has given me to tackle any assignment (even when using natural light)

Seems like money well spend.

Certainly, if there was something similar based in Northern Ireland, I'd be booking.

If you do decide to take the course, come back to TP, to let us know how you get on.

Thanks Glen, nice to hear you got so much out of it :)

I should also point out for those of you on the fence about whether or not its worth it, I do offer a full money back guarantee if you are unhappy about the course.

Cant say fairer than that :D

Yeah seems great, does anyone know of someone doing a similar thing in Central Scotland

This looks promising - you aren't too far from me. Will have to take a look at your website James :)
