Yes
As above really. My Mum is going to India with work for a week and I wondered if it were any cheaper over there and if it's worth me giving her a wish list!

Any tips?

I looked in Delhi a few years ago, and i think after working out the exchange rate it wasn't that much cheaper

If you buy outside the EU, or someone buys for you, there are two potential problems:

Guarantee problems if something goes wrong, secondly you might end up being charged for VAT and customs duties when the goods are brought into the UK

This really,

The saving you make could cost you more if something goes wrong.

Often the saving (if any) is not really worth taking the chance.

And if you don't like it. Or it does not work as expected its a long way to take it back.

I have been to quite a few places, and in most of them the poorer the country, the higher the prices,on photos goods :)

I had two trips to Mumbai this year and didn't find prices any cheaper and certainly not enough to risk the duty and VAT that might need to be paid when bringing goods back into the UK. Even the duty free at Dubai (flew Emirates via Dubai) was on a par or more expensive than could be bought in the UK.

Agreed. I was in Delhi a year ago, and asked a couple of the client's local staff about this. They prefer to shop in HK. Dubai duty free is more expensive than South African retail, which is significantly higher than the UK.

IMO, http://smartshoppers.in/ have the best prices in India.

As to whether they are cheaper...you might find a few good deals, but in general, they are more expensive. I try to buy most of my stuff when I'm here in the UK rather than back in India.

If and when the exchange rates goes to about Rs 85 (1 GBP = Rs 77 at present), it might just be worth it.

Based on my travels (and transits), I've known Dubai, SriLanka (both duty free) and Germany, Switzerland to be the most expensive. Besides US and HK/China, I think UK has the best prices in general.

PS: feel free to PM me if you need any other info...(I'm one of them ;))
