Thinking of taking a degree or foundation degree in photography, but i'm finding it hard to discover what universities and colleges are the best for this subject and more information about what the course involves.

any idea where i could find out? Or even better has any1 been on a course: if so when, where and tell me about it please?

hope you can be of help

Thanks
Charlie

I realise this isn't incredibly helpful, but for the love of God not Brighton :)

Haha why not Brighton out of interest? :)

I went to Carmarthen CCTA (now west wales college of the arts) and we had a brilliant course. Really relaxed, loads of freedom, good support staff (Colin the technician was ace) and in a great place if your were into landscape 'togging.

Plus, the other benefit was that I did two years doing a HND in photography and then a 'top-up' year, which got me a degree, so for three years graft I got two major qualifications.

Got a drinker's degree myself (2:2) but I learnt soooo much about darkroom practises and studio photography and it certainly helped me get the job I'm in now.

I went to Napier's Design and Media Arts (DAMA) School in Edinburgh. A lot of fine art theory and project work, but perhaps not enough practical teaching for most people.

thanks guys, obviously personal reviews are very useful so please keep talking.

if any1 has been to UWE, Pymouth Uni, Plymouth College of Arts and Design, or Falmouth i'd be very interested. Still interested in others too.

I'd also like to find out if there is any ratings for photography courses like there is for many other courses. Its really hard to know where is respected and where is good.

thanks
