Can there be a place on here to discuss courses people, me for one, may be taking

Ive just signed up to the Institute of Professional Photograhy Diploma Course and it would be good to get feedback off other people that may be doing the course

Also might help steer people away from dodgy courses

I know im new here, do I need a minimum number of post before I can put in some requests? ;)

Ta!

Hiya Stevie and welcome.

No - we tend not to talk to people from Liverpool... or is that Manchester  or is that just me

You can put in as many requests as you like but nothing too exotic, the mods have a fairly basic drinks cabinet.

As for courses - well, I'd be interested in the answer to this so that's a  for the question. Answers may follow later.

p.s. I suspect you've posted this in the wrong area - so hold tight to something - we're about to be whisked awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Think you can remove your seatbelt.

This thread is really a suggestion so it can stay here.

Most discussion of courses takes place in the talk photography forum section so I would suggest starting a specific thread there about your course and any thoughts on it.

If you put

Photography Courses

into the site search (on the nav bar at the top) you will get a lot of threads on the subject to view.

Hiya Stevie and welcome.

No i'm from Liverpool, but in an earlier post I said I may need to move to Manchester to make any money as it seems that Liverpool is overrun with photographers and it looks like they all meet in here

Thanks for the pointers Robert

BTW - a very large box turned up at my house yesterday with the contents of my Diploma Course from the Institute of Professional Photography

Assignment 1 - send in 1 1/2 - 3 pages about yourself and your interests - should be no problem, Im working on that now

Assignemt 2 - go to a restaurant and take 5 pictures of the interior, exterior, patrons and food - should be straight forward enough
Would you say that a McDonalds Restaurant is adquate?

The only thing that was missing from the box was my promised and much anticipated Press Pass, hope it gets me in to Liverpool matches for free :D

Graham Light from Abbey Studios in Cirencester will be reviewing and marking my course

So I look forward to his C&C once I get my assignments e-mailed off to him

Hey Stevie, sounds very interesting, hope you keep us up to date with this.
I would imagine the 'Golden Archies' is fine as a restaurant ... afterall isnt that what they call themselves ;)
Also, I wonder how many other restaurants there are where you would feel comfortable/they would be happy about you pointing a camera at its customers, unless of course there was something in it for the restaurant. :)

Hiya Stevie I thought that was a bit tight only 3 pages for a Scouse to talk about themselves.:lol: Good luck with the course it looks really interesting hope it goes well for you.You are welcome in Manchester any time you want to visit (bring your phrase book so we can understand you tho):thinking:Hope to see you shooting around Manchester
Bob:thumbs:

Stevie, just wondering how you were finding the course, I was considering starting it but the preview I saw of it look as though it was written in a very basic way and wondered how informative it really was?!

any advice would be of great help!

Hello. This is so weird. I got the prospectus yesterday and was going to post today about the exact same course.......haha spooky. I have enrolled today so maybe we could chat sometime to share ideas etc.

hi shrimper, how does the course look? is it as over simplifiied as the preview online looked?

I completed mod 1 that was really easy, just write about yourself and what you want to get out of the course

I had done the pics for mod 2 but I changed me mind about sending them in following comments and feedback I got on here, and between work and bad weather I havent been out to re-shoot them,

The course is fairly basic and probably more geared up to starting your own business, but you do get a proper qualification on completion and that meant a lot to me
if im gonna do it I wanna see some recognition for what i've done

I would reccomend it to anyone, a pro photographer gives you feedback on all of your assignments, there's not loads of reading to do either and its varied and covers a variety of photography situations

Ive just been looking at courses as I did mine 14 years ago and cant even find my certs. Theyre so expensive these days though and Im not sure if half the quals are recognised these days anywhere :(

This is a quote from an email I got from the PI when I asked about the recognition of the Diploma....

"We are recognised world-wide as an on-line education provider and we
have our own set of standards that must be met in order to receive your
Diploma. On successful completion of this course you will receive your
Diploma of Professional Photography as issued by The Photography Institute."

that says they are recognised as an online provider of courses but doesnt say they are providing anything which is a recognised industry standard qualification.

ie Btec, C+G, OCN, HND, degree

From the FAQ's
