Hi All, LONG time no post. Been a very busy guy the last few months. Anyway I want to get back into using my camera and I have just bought a couple of new lenses for my 30D. (I probably had the 300D last time I was here!!)

I'm the kinda guy you could say "All the gear, no idea" :p

I learn best by doing, and by being shown things, practicality rocks, I get bored quickly by reading and then trying things, so I was looking for a photography course.

Can anyone recommend something in the Herts/Bucks area? (I live in Rickmansworth, work in Milton Keynes.)

I saw this one - any experience?

Appreciate any info you guys have. Also if there is a decent local Camera club (with young people - I consider myself young being the wrong side of 30 ;)

Cheers

Thanks Ven

I'm sorry I haven't had time to keep up here, Just soooo busy with other things!

welcome back Aquilaeagle dude!

Vens link is a good one, as are the 2 you found, though experience think forums are full of know-alls...

Depending on how deep into it you want to go there's http://pptutor-online.com. I've not tried them yet so don't know what they'e like.

I did do a digital photography short course with my local college about 18 months ago but it was a waste of time. It was all about photoshop and nothing I couldn't have learnt about in magazines.

Ian,

I live in MK and am a member of one of the local camera clubs, but maybe is not what you are looking for as a young persons group. New City Photographic Society is a very friendly and welcoming bunch though and pockets of people do get together to do their own thing outside of the club. Without offending anyone, I probably brought the average age down a bit as I'm 41. One of the nicest things I have encountered is that 'experienced' photographers are really helpful in giving advice when you ask for it, so has been a great help to me.

One other option already mentioned from the earlier link, I'm starting on the OU course at the beginning of May with a few other members from this forum. As it's the first one, no feedback yet on the course. Where there has been some feedback is from Digital Depot who have run some seminars on various things http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=15189&highlight=digital+depot+seminars with reasonable feedback, based in Stevenage.

Finally, have you considered private tuition for specific areas? I would recommend a chap called John Credland who I will probably go to for some tuition once I start the OU course. He has a website address http://www.johncredland.co.uk/ and charges £22 per hour.

Good luck with finding new inspiration.
Regards
Jas

Thanks everyone for the info. Jas, perhaps you could PM me details of the club in MK :)

I have booked in to do an EOS 40D experience day on 31st May with PhotoCourses and I am really looking forward to it. I am a complete beginner who mainly wants to learn about the features on my 40d as this is my forst SLR and at the moment I am a bit stumped by it all - basic is what I need so it sounds ideal as a starting block.

Jas could you possibly PM me details of camera clubs in MK?

At the risk of hijacking the thread :bonk: I've been on the New City Photographic Society website as, being a newbie, I was interested in joining too. It only runs till the end of May so thought it wouldnt be worthwhile at the moment

Jas, what do you think?

Ian, I am moving to watford later this year, and would be interested in what courses you found good.

thanks
Ek.

Sorry for bumping an old thread. I'm thinkning of trying to get back into my camera a bit more and actually learning some stuff.

I learn best by being shown, practical stuff, then trying it out, rather than reading things and trying to interpret. Messing around and seeing the results a bit I guess. :)

I'm now living in Milton Keynes, so if there is anyone experienced around who would like to help, it would be good to meet up and soak up some advice and tips and learn a bit.

:)

Hi

Try the guys at Unique Capture, they have a studio in Bletchley and run evening courses once or twice a month based around various themes ie low key / wedding / glamour etc etc.
