Photography Courses? Recognised qualification

First time user looking for advice

Currently own a photography business mainly for weddings. It’s a hobby but would like to start it professionally. Is it best to gain a qualification or diploma in photography to be taken seriously?

Certificate in photographic practise

Or

Only concern about theses courses is that you don’t get hands on approach on using a camera. No seminars or workshops. Its pure theory work.

Have a degree in computer science so could do a masters in photography ( I think)
Own a canon 30D and 400D

Any help, advice, suggestions be much appreciated

yeah the events photos down at present

thanks, not bad for basic photo skills i guess
Still think i need a photography course to show me how to get to the pro level

izharqu, I've had a look at your site and images. IMO the images there show that you have a good eye, but I would agree with you that there's room for improvement, particularly in lighting and composition.

In terms of whether you need a qualification, I would say that in my opinion it is not necessary if your work is very strong. I'm entirely self-taught, and have never been asked about my qualifications when working and teaching in the US, Canada, and the UK. The best reason to take a course is because you truly feel it will teach you what you need to know, even if it does not give credit toward a qualification.

thanks

so what courses do you recommend here in the UK

Not for qualifications, just general 2/4/5 days courses out here

izharqu, I live in Denver, Colorado, so I can't speak to specific workshops in the UK. I'm sure those who live in the UK could give you a better list of good quality workshops than I could. Are you looking for a "people photography" specific class?

Tbh, Ive not heard of weekend courses with recognised qualifications as in the sort that will put letters after your name etc.

I think in photograhy, ability aside, its experience, confidence in your art, and networking, that will take you a lot further than a any 'recognised certificate'

Having said that, there are some photographers of note who take classes & it would no doubt be beneficial to spend some time/money with them to broaden your knowledge.

I know Annabel Williams clicky is well known for her courses, though I have no personal knowledge of them.

I know of a great portrait photography workshop coming up in Brighton..... LOL.

Yes, that is a somewhat self-serving comment, however I know firsthand that it is a good workshop. ;)
