Not sure if this is in the correct place? Sorry if not, I did have a look but thought basics would be where courses may be discussed.

Anyway, I've just been reading about a course offered in the south which sounds brilliant but too far for me. Does anyone know if any courses run in the northwest area?

I will have a google but thought you guys would be able to recommend decent courses etc through word of mouth or first hand experience.

Thanks in advance!

What kind of course would you be looking for? Noticed some on the Wilkinson Cameras website today.

Why not just go along to the next TP meet in your area, chances are you'll learn as much there and it won't cost you a penny :D

Just looking for a starter dslr course really, I am south manchester on the Derbyshire borders. Thanks for the replies, where do the TP lot meet? I would be annoyingly novice I think!

There's no such thing as an annoying novice. If you have a simple point and shoot or a full blown pro kit then your just as welcome to come along to a meet.

We have one arranged for Saturday 30th July when we will be meeting up in Liverpool for a days photography and a bit of lunch. Everyone will have chance to learn something new or pass on something they know.

There will usually be someone who can offer a lift to the stranded.

Where abouts on the borders do you live, maybe we can get you to come along and have a day of learning and fun.

Thanks for that, I am near Buxton so Liverpool is about an hour away for me. :-)

a TP meet in the Manchester Area anytime soon? Iam a newbie and looking for some tips.

Many thanks in advance..

A few of us met in Liverpool last weekend and mentioned having a meet at Salford Quays. Keep an eye on the Meeting Place forum. I'd be quite happy to discuss basics if anyone was interested.

Hey I will be suggesting another Manchester meet about Oct time... looking like Salford Quays at night :)

As said above keep your eyes peeled in the meeting place section.

Ps - all levels welcome, I am only a beginner :D

Hello

Buxton? not far from Macclesfield have a look at the Macclesfield College of Further Education website.

They have a fair few Evening (and full time) photo courses that are fun to do and can get you thinking about photography. I am going sign up for a course in September for the 3 year.

Thanks for that knikki I have just looked on the web there is a great selection of courses to choose from :-)

Yeah there is a fair few to choose from.

I am not sure wehat they all cover but I do know about the ABC Level 2 and 3 ones.

Level 2 covers a range of images and styles, you look at landscape, portrait, lighting plus more and you have to produce a series of images and work book for assesment at the end of the year, plus hang them on the wall for open day as well.

Level 3 takes it up a notch where concentrate and develop a theme over the year and agin produce 10 quality images and a work book for assesment at the end of the year.

I have done the Level 3 course for the last 3 years and although I do find it, stressful, frustrating over all I find them fun, sociable and it does push me to look at other photographic styles.

All the above is just my personal take on things. :)

i found it personally very useful. It is very practical and by the time i finished the course i was able to use the manual settings rather than using autofocus. It depends on your requirements. If you know the basics and can use manual settings then go for the intermediate course.
